Summary

About the Position: Position is located with the Radiology Department, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY.

Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. Visitors & residents enjoy the shops & eateries of Hopkinsville & Clarksville.

This position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Health Care Occupations.
Responsibilities

Receive and review requests from physicians and other health care providers for ultrasound examinations of patients.
Establish and maintain a variety of files and records relating to ultrasound activities and functions.
Select, set up, adjust and operate ultrasound equipment.
Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams such as abdomens, small parts, upper and lower extremities, pelvis, neonatal heads, obstetric sonography etc.
Assist in performance of invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, nephrostomes, amniocentesis.
Explain procedures and actions to allay fears of patients.
Train radiologists, physicians, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment.
Assists radiologist or physician in reading or evaluating results.
Receive and position patient for examination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Performing a wide variety of ultrasound examinations on human patients; 2) Setting up, adjusting, operating and maintaining ultrasound and diagnostic equipment; and 3) Assisting Radiologist or Physician in reading or evaluating ultrasound results.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Licensure/Certification: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) is preferred.

Education

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: Successful completion of at least one and a half years (27 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the work of the position.

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
