This is a sensitive position conducting executive level work for a board eligible or board-certified primary care or emergency medicine physician as the medical director of the Walton County health department and the co-located Walton Community Health Center, a FQHC. This position supervises the integrated behavioral health program, multiple APRNs, PAs, and other clinical providers, as well as providing direct patient care.
The medical director is a direct report of the director of the health department. This position is responsible for 3 clinic locations in a beautiful and rapidly growing county in the Florida Panhandle. The position offers the unique opportunity to work in a state health department with a FQHC co-entity and to experience the benefits of both clinic environments.
the Walton Community Health Center is a certified patient centered medical home. The medical director ensures that a patient-centered medical home approach to providing total health care to patient care is used.
Provide direct medical care to patients of the Walton county Health Department to include preventive medicine, chronic disease care, family planning, and STD diagnosis and treatment.
Provide medical consultation and oversight to Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors who render medical services under mutually developed protocols. Provide oversite and make recommendations for the provision of services relating to Federally Qualified Health Center and the health department medical services.
Perform medical review and evaluation of tuberculosis cases through medical records reviews and patient related consultation with TB nurse case manager related to patients suspected of having TB or with diagnosis of active TB. Participation in overall health department efforts in disease surveillance (prevention and control measures) and consultation for communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Assist in the interpretation and collection of epidemiologic data in the health department.
Provide medical oversight in disaster preparedness both within the health department and with other agencies involved in such efforts.
Responsible for QI/QA process and evaluation of clinical services for the Health Department and Community Health Center. Responsible for oversight of the laboratory.
Member of Leadership Team. Serve on various teams to support the Health Department and Community Health Center.
Emergency duty is required. Department of Health has responsibilities during and after emergencies.
This DOH position may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours and/or days performing emergency duties. These duties may require working in abnormal conditions and/or potentially hazardous environments.
