Participate as a clinical team member. Provides formal and informal ethics consultations. Organizes and participates in clinical ethics forums and collaborations. Serves as a facilitator and resource within the system toward strengthening the clinical staff's professional code of ethics.
1.Providesconsultation services on all aspects ofmedical ethics.
Identify clinical ethical issues and ethically appropriate treatment options.
Provide problem-solving and informational expertise.
Promote efforts to resolve conflict among participants by analyze medical information and providing problem-solving and informational expertise.
2.Supervises Ethics Fellows and students.
3.Participates in peer performance, activities andquality assessment reports.
4.Facilitates clinical, patient and family education,counseling and discussions in the areas of ethics, including but not limitedto:
Differences in opinion among caregivers and/or family members about treatment
Addressing questions about surrogate decision-makers and/or patient advance directives.
Addressing question about ethical policies, such as resuscitation or withholding/ withdrawing life-sustaining treatment.
5.Participates in team meetings and conferences toenhance interdisciplinary approach to patient centered care.
6.Develops ethics resources and education.
Acts as resource to staff and implements education programs.
Assist in planning and participates in future educational activities.
7.Serves on departmental and multidisciplinarycommittees, which influence or determine policies affecting ethical practice.
8.Servesas liaison between patient and community, and acts as advocate of medicalethics.
9.Participatesin approved medical and nursing research studies.
Bachelor's degree, required. Doctoral Degree in clinical discipline, preferred (MD, DO, DNP, JD PhD.).
Minimum of two (2) years clinical inpatient experience in a staff physician, nursing, social work, chaplain or clinical ethicist role, required.
Current license to practice in clinical discipline in New York State, required.
Completion of a certification in Medical Ethics or Bioethics, required.
Completion of Medical Ethics Fellowship or related advanced ethics training and/or significant ethics consultation experience, preferred.
