About Midlands Regional Center
Midlands Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Adaptive Devices Supervisor ( Physical Therapy Director) and the Health Services Administrator, performs repairs, fabrication, modification and safety enhancements to adaptive devices including beds, wheelchairs, seating components, walkers, helmets, splints, shower chairs, gait belts and etc.
Assist in seating/positioning and adaptive device clinics/consultations/evaluations as needed.
Coordinates with all appropriate staff members to glean enhanced knowledge and understanding concerning improvements and repairs needed to wheelchairs, beds, etc. Prioritizes work orders based on functional, safety and medical needs.
Performs and participates in quality and development activities assigned by supervisor or Health Services Administrator.
conducts in-services or other training within the scope of areas of expertise related to wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
Trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements: A High School Diploma or GED.
Three years of trade experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. SC drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the designated trade.
Knowledge of techniques, methods and practices used in the designated trade. Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment. Ability to comprehend blueprints, plans and specifications.
Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to perform arithmetic. Ability to communicate effectively.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
