POSITION SUMMARY

Jefferson Radiology is seeking a Editor/ Transcription who is responsible for processing diagnostic imaging reports via the following methods: traditional typed transcription, voice/speech recognition editing, medical scribe, or report preparation. The HDS I & II edits voice/speech recognition generated reports and is also responsible for other transcription services provided by the department based upon assigned shift, experience, or demonstrated skill set. The HDS I & II is regularly given assignments that vary in report or correspondence type, originator, and specialty. They can resolve non-routine problems independently or help resolve complex or unusual dictation system/workflow problems. They may be required to dictate/author ultrasounds and bone densities on behalf of physicians by researching data in physician radiology software (PACS) with and without data sheets completed by radiology technicians. They may be required to review exams for billing edit inquiries.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edits transcribed (voice/speech recognition generated) reports against actual dictation consistently and according to transcription guidelines, standards of style, and formats of the practice. Ensures complete and accurate medical documentation, including correct use of medical terminology, grammar, spelling, and predefined report formatting. Prioritizes STAT exams appropriately. Remains cognizant of exam turnaround time and service level agreements. Demonstrates adherence to "First In First Out" guidelines.

  • Demonstrate quality transcription work, consistently maintain an accuracy score of 98% or higher on audits for all work types.

  • May transcribe dictation in real time while shadowing physician in the reading room (medical scribe) or populate exam reports/addenda with identified template and data provided by the technologist, pathology report, etc. (report preparation).

  • May assist with new-hire orientation and training.

  • In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices. Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style, and editing. Ability to use a vast array of professional reference materials, often in innovative ways.

  • Ability to operate word processing equipment, dictation and transcription equipment, digital imaging applications, and other equipment as specified, and to troubleshoot as necessary.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision as the position is remote.

  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.

  • Ability to concentrate. Excellent listening skills. Excellent eye, hand, and auditory coordination.

  • Ability to understand relevant medicolegal implications and responsibilities of the healthcare record, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, along with security standards and privacy practices (i.e., HIPAA).

  • Provides support and assistance to other staff in the department as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Participates as a member of the Jefferson Radiology team. Consistently demonstrates and promotes Jefferson Radiology's values.

  • Ensures a professional attitude and appearance. Consistently demonstrates flexibility and good judgment. Consults with co-workers and supervisor as necessary.

  • Adheres to all Jefferson Radiology policies and procedures, including Compliance, HIPAA, OSHA, licensing, and accreditation guidelines. Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis.

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 3+ years of medical transcription experience.

  • Associates degree or equivalent in terms of experience.

  • Seasoned knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values.

  • Excellent typing ability.

  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of word processing equipment, dictation, and transcription equipment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred:

  • Radiology transcription experience with knowledge of Powerscribe software, PACS, and/or EMR.

  • Certification through American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certification through Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) as Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS) or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS) is preferred.

The hourly range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00.
