Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH) is now seeking a Medical Director to join its growing team of professionals. Piedmont Geriatric Hospital is a state facility located in Burkeville, Virginia that provides high quality care for individuals aged 65 years old and above with psychiatric conditions. PGH utilizes an electronic health record and serves both acute and long-term psychiatric care.

The ideal candidate is a psychiatrist with a passion for clinical quality and excellence, and a strong leader to work collaboratively across state and community partners to ensure the best holistic care for the geriatric population. The Medical Director serves a member of the facility's Executive Leadership Team and is involved in strategic planning and decision making regarding the overall operation of the hospital.

This role is responsible for monitoring facility-wide medical and geropsychiatric services, and directly oversees a team of psychiatric and medical professionals. The individual in this role will support on call and holiday coverage as needed and reports directly to the Facility Director/CEO.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved/recognized medical school

  • Completed psychiatric residency program

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Virginia by the Virginia Board of Medicine

  • Federally licensed to prescribe medications

  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Additional Considerations

  • Prior Administrative and supervisory experience preferred

  • Clinical experience in forensic psychiatry preferred

  • Dual certification in psychiatry and geriatrics preferred

PGH is a facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). PGH is a 123-bed psychiatric facility and the only facility that exclusively serves individuals over the age of 65.
