The Optum Specialty Medical Director will provide utilization management services for our clients and clinical guidance for our next-generation comprehensive specialty pharmacy solution. This solution will help ensure providers deliver high-quality, evidence-based and cost-efficient specialty pharmacy care for our clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in specialty pharmacy drugs covered under the medical benefit including sodium hyaluronate, inflammatory, intravenous immunoglobulin and multiple scleroris drugs

  • Perform utilization review determinations and support case and disease management teams to achieve optimal clinical outcomes

  • Engage & collaborate with treating providers telephonically. This will include discussion of evidence-based guidelines, opportunities to close clinical quality / service gaps, and care plan changes that can impact health care expense

  • Enhance clinical expertise of the specialty pharmacy team through education sessions with nursing teams

  • Evaluate clinical and other data (e.g., quality metrics, claims & health record data, utilization data) to identify opportunities for improvement of clinical care and processes

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license

  • Board Certified in medical specialty

  • 5 years of clinical practice experience

  • Demonstrated accomplishments in any of the following areas: Utilization management, Case management, Disease management, Quality management

  • Experience working with clinical policy

  • Strong presentation skills and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Utilization management experience working in collaboration with a utilization management company, payor or hospital

  • Internal Medicine specialty

The Pharmacy Network Mgmt Director role will focus on supporting custom retail pharmacy network solutions. This is an end to end ownership role where you will lead and provide direction to a cross functional team (internal and external) to provide our clients with custom pharmacy networks including onsite pharmacies, client owned pharmacies, and pharmacies with special relationships with our clients. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: * Develop customer retain pharmacy network solutions to meet client needs. Including supporting onsite pharmacy setups (contracting, claims adjudication, claims payment, benefit design, special/mail service and 340b arrangements. * Leads a cross functional team (sales/account management, finance, legal, operations) to facilitate selling, implementing, and maintaining custom network solutions. * Manages external customer and vendor relationships to support pharmacy networks supports sales and account management as a single point of contact for custom network solutions. * Provides sales training, and expert consultation to internal and external clients on our network capabilities and solutions. * Prepares reports and works on special projects as assigned. * Builds and maintains effective relationships with retail pharmacy provider partners. * Requires a BS/BA degree in a related field; 3-5 years work experience in pharmacy networks contracting; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. * MBA preferred. * RPh/PharmD preferred. * Healthcare experience preferred. * 5-7 years experience in pharmacy networks contracting preferred.
