About the Role:

The Medical Director will leverage clinical and scientific expertise to provide strategic guidance across the breadth of Medical Affairs (MA) functions in support of marketed products and development candidates. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: external expert identification and relationship development, scientific platform support, publication reviews, medical communications content development and dissemination, medical and promotional review support, TA strategy planning and data generation (Phase 3b/4 studies).

Your Contributions include, but are not limited to, providing subject matter expert guidance to:

  • Collect and synthesize input from external stakeholders to understand the needs of patients and caregivers to inform the strategic planning of the MA department

  • Align cross-functionally on global medical affairs strategy and tactics, clinical development programs and brand team strategic planning

  • Gather the necessary clinical, scientific, and payer inputs to effectively inform the Strategic Medical Plan (including organizing and leading Advisory Boards, Expert Panels, 1:1 meetings)

  • Advance the science related to Company products and clinical development programs by growing relationships with EEs and partnering with research organizations Develop robust training initiatives to ensure the highest level scientific technical acumen for all MA team members

  • Creation and execution of Phase 3b/4 research protocols and study conduct to optimize patient care

  • Assess protocol grant submissions to the Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) program

  • Assist the Medical Communications function create and implement the publications and data dissemination plans, and associated Medical Congress tactics

  • Work cross-functionally with all stakeholders within Neurocrine

  • Be a reviewer for Publications, Medical and Promotional Review Committees

Requirements:

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) with minimum of 5 years clinical practice or related experience beyond medical residency

  • Minimum of 2 years Medical Affairs or relevant experience

  • Demonstrated success as a Medical Director or comparable role, including development and execution of medical strategies and plans

  • Experience in working in matrix organization collaborating with other medical functions, clinical, regulatory, health economic and outcome research, medical information, and other cross functions to deliver results

  • Strong scientific, analytical and problem solving skills, strategic capabilities, project management and planning

  • Expertise in understanding interface between clinical practice and MA-sponsored research

  • Ability to communicate effectively, including complex scientific concepts, both in writing and in oral presentations

  • Demonstrated ability to design and conduct late phase clinical trials, including ability to critically review and analyze study designs

  • Approximately 20% travel time could be required

Preferred Experience:

  • Medically Qualified with post graduate qualification and specialization in Psychiatry preferred

  • Knowledge of US healthcare delivery systems (e.g. accountable care, managed care, pharmacy benefit management, government [Medicare, Medicaid]) and understanding of policy issues)

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal relationship and collaboration skills working within cross- functional executive leadership teams

The Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director, Oncology is a credentialed (i.e., MD, PhD, PharmD, or DNP) therapeutic and disease expert who engages in scientific exchange with leaders in the external medical and scientific community. Scientific exchange does not include promotional claims about any drug, vaccine or biologic product. The Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director provide to Scientific Leaders balanced, factual, scientific information about non-product areas of interest to the company. The Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director provides research support to our companies Investigator-Sponsored and Company-Sponsored Trials to enhance the understanding of the scientific foundations and goals of the study, support patient enrollment and retention efforts for a given study or address Investigator questions. The Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director also responds to scientific questions from Scientific Leaders, including questions about company products. The Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director will not have any sales objectives or accountability for prescribing or sales of any company product and are required to avoid any situations that could create the appearance that they have such responsibilities. An Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director may not comment on or make suggestions with respect to the diagnosis, treatment, or circumstances of a specific patient. Primary Responsibilities * Develop professional relationships and communicate with national and regional scientific leaders to ensure access to medical and scientific information on areas of therapeutic interest and company products. * Conduct peer to peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence with those scientific leaders to ensure they have a medical contact within the company. * Upon request from Global Clinical Trial Operations (GCTO), support Company-Sponsored Trials to enhance the understanding of scientific foundations and goals of the study, support patient enrollment and retention efforts or address investigator questions. * May initiate discussion with potential investigators to determine the level of interest and qualifications for a specific compound or trial. * Recommend potential study sites to Global Clinical Trial Operations (GCTO)/Clinical Research. * Address requests from investigators for information regarding participation in our Research and Development Division's studies. * Address scientific questions. * Upon request from Global Center for Scientific Affairs (GCSA), support company Investigator-Sponsored studies to enhance the understanding of the scientific foundations and goals of the study, support patient enrollment and retention efforts or address investigator questions. * Share our Company areas of interest and discuss study concepts to assess scientific merit and alignment with the company's research strategies. * Respond to unsolicited requests for assistance from potential investigators in submitting research proposals by providing internal guidelines or technical and scientific advice. * Review headquarters-directed education and training to maintain current knowledge and understanding of dynamic scientific and clinical environment in the company's areas of interest. * Direct scientific leader inquiries on issues outside of Oncology Regional Medical Scientific Director scope of responsibilities (e.g., grants) to appropriate company resources consistent with applicable policies. * When requested by our Research and Development Division, serve as a resource for the identification of potential investigators for consideration for participating in phase II-IV clinical development programs * In response to unsolicited requests from scientific leaders, provide areas of interest and general high-level information regarding the company Investigator Study Program process. * Serve as a role model for other field medical team members, including on-boarding and/or therapeutic training partner. * Attend scientific and medical meetings.
