Professional Requirements for the Medical Director
Demonstrates Competency in the Areas for the Medical Director
Participates in administrative decision making, establishes policies, procedures and guidelines designed to ensure the provision of adequate, comprehensive care.
Ability to supervise and coordinate the implementation of the program???s policies and procedures following their approval by Administration. Such supervision shall not entail supervision of diagnosis and/or treatment of patients, which shall remain the responsibility of the facility.
Demonstrates ability to make recommendations to the organization with respect to the modification or adoption of policies and procedures.
Participates in all meetings of program staff, including the medical staff meetings and committee meetings as necessary.
Participates in treatment team and clinical problem solving meetings to report his/her observations and coordinate the development of recommendations to the organization with respect to policy and procedural changes and to interface with supervising physicians.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Participates in performance improvement and utilization review activities as established for or with respect to the program.
Is a patient advocate, ensuring the patient???s medical needs are met.
Participates in staff, professional and community education programs.
Communicates with patients??? attending physicians and other healthcare providers regarding the Program???s policies, procedures and standards.
Interacts with admitting and attending physicians as necessary concerning any issue of case management.
Presents to the Governing Body and/or its committees, periodic reports reflecting medical services of the Program and such special reports as may be required by the Board.
Orients new physicians to the physician???s role in the program.
Available for consultation by staff during regular program hours.
Provides group education to patients on various topics, such as medications and symptom management.
Interacts with the organization???s administrative personnel as required to fulfill the foregoing responsibilities.
Acts as the Program???s medical representative in the community.
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including JCAHO, federal and state.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.
