Ultragenyx is looking for an experienced Medical leader with the passion and creativity to develop great medicines for patients. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Medical Affairs Strategy, the Medical Director will be responsible for the successful development and execution of key medical affairs activities through partnership with Medical Affairs colleagues, Commercial, Clinical Sciences, and Program Management. The Medical Director will serve as the therapeutic medical affairs lead across the neurology portfolio including pipeline therapies. Key activities will include: establishing the medical strategy and plan for the assigned program(s), developing an integrated evidence plan for each program, lead execution of relevant medical affairs activities, forging strong relationships with key opinion leaders, supporting health technology assessment and other payer-related activities, compliantly support commercial activities, support patient advocacy initiative, and support life cycle management.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the management of patients with neurology diseases, development of therapies for rare disease including gene therapy or mRNA, commercialization, life cycle management, and successful track record in key opinion leader and payer relationships. The individual will be a self-starter with strong scientific capabilities and understanding of health care systems who wishes to be part of an innovative team that supports the company's mission. The role will report to the VP Global Medical Affairs and Strategy

Work Model:

Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the neurology therapeutic medical strategy for the assigned therapeutic programs.

  • Develop and lead the integrated evidence generating plan for the neurology therapeutic programs.

  • Lead execution of the relevant medical affairs activities including advisory boards, medical education initiatives, congress activities, and payer interactions.

  • Maintain high level of scientific and medical expertise on the relevant disease areas and serve as key medical resource in the disease area and on specific products.

  • Lead program Global Medical SubTeam and participate in program subteams as Global Medical Affairs therapeutic expert.

  • Provide medical expertise across the organization to compliantly assist in the development and execution of commercial and clinical development activities.

  • Serve as medical affairs reviewer for promotional materials and non-promotional scientific materials.

  • Participates in scientific engagement with external communities (including experts, clinical investigators, societies and other healthcare professionals /stakeholders) to educate and advance scientific and medical understanding of relevant disease area.

  • Provide scientific and medical leadership as needed for publication planning and execution.

  • Supports Expanded Access Programs/Investigator Sponsored Trial requests as applicable per program.

  • Provide support for Medical Science Liaison activities. This will include training as well as interfacing with KOLs for insight gathering

  • Provide support as needed to Clinical Sciences and Clinical Operations to ensure successful execution of our clinical trials program.

  • Support high-quality execution of Corporate-wide initiatives.

  • Exhibits leadership skills within and outside of the organization (including people skills, mentoring, presentation skills and professional interaction).

Requirements:

  • Must have a medical degree MD, DO.

  • 3-5 years or more experience in the pharmaceutical industry and specifically medical affairs

  • Medical specialty training with Board Certification; Neurology preferred

  • Neurology Industry experience a must

  • Experience working in rare diseases preferred

  • Proven leadership experience and able to work both independently and as a member of an integrated, interdisciplinary team in carrying out assigned responsibilities

  • Must be analytical and articulate in both oral and in writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate well with others at varying professional levels, especially in the medical profession

  • Track record of forming compliant partnerships with commercial colleagues

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public

  • Ability to think creatively, and efficiently to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions  #LI-CS1 #LI-Remote
