In this role as Medical Director MPO (Medical Policy & Operations) you will be responsible for providing clinical expertise and business direction in support of medical management programs to promote the delivery of high quality, constituent focused medical care with a focus clinical and payment policy. This Medical Director provides subject matter expertise to provide clinical support and business direction in these areas. Knowledge of Aetna clinical and coding policy and experience with appeals, claim review, reimbursement issues, and coding is preferable, but a willingness to learn is essential.

This is a remote Work at Home position and can be located anywhere in the United States.

Fundamental Components

Responsibilities of the Medical Director include support of the appeal process, clinical claim review process, pre-certification, and predetermination of covered benefits in the commercial and Medicare environment. This Medical Director provides subject matter expertise in clinical and payment policy to provide clinical support and business direction in these areas.

In this role you will:

  • Participate on work groups as a clinical subject matter expert to identify and promote opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of health care services.

  • Apply clinical coding and reimbursement expertise to insure alignment and correct application of Aetna policies and practices to service and payment requests.

  • Proactively use data analysis to identify opportunities for quality improvement and positively influence the effective delivery of quality care services.

  • Work on the Aetna Clinical Policy Bulletin (Clinical Policy) as a policy contributor.

  • Be a subject matter expert and internal consultant and payment policy contributor subject matter expertise and internal consultant.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work within and lead as necessary teams comprised of a diverse group of health delivery professionals in order to manage the business objectives of the company.

  • Work Collaboratively with the functional areas.

Background Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in Health Care Delivery System e.g., Clinical Practice and Health Care Industry.

  • M.D. or D.O.

  • Foundational baseline skills include Medicine, Health Policy, Coding: HCPCS / CPT, Clinical Policy, Reimbursement and Health Care Systems.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

The Medical Director will be responsible for monitoring oncology clinical trials and the development of strategy for oncology programs. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Clinical Development and should have demonstrated proficiency in leading clinical trials and supporting development programs, in addition to being adept at managing relationships across collaborations and with the external clinical community. RESPONSIBILITIES * Establish and drive teams to execute the strategic long-term vision for the program * Lead clinical study teams and ensure appropriate medical monitoring for ongoing clinical studies * Lead development and maintenance of clinical documents (e.g. protocols and amendments, investigator brochures, clinical study reports) * Lead development of clinical study documents to be used in regulatory interactions and filings * Develop manuscripts, abstracts and presentations for scientific meetings * Develop and advise on current and future clinical development plans within internal and joint development teams * Evaluate safety, pharmacology, and efficacy data from ongoing and completed studies to inform clinical strategy * Conduct literature reviews and prepare summaries to support clinical development strategies * Perform literature searches to support ongoing clinical research and development activities * Establish and maintain clinical study site relationships as the sponsor medical representative * Participate in regular data review and cleaning with the study team to support publications, presentations and database locks QUALIFICATIONS * MD or PharmD with BCOP * Clinical oncology experience: Board certification in oncology or hematology preferred for MD or board certification in Clinical Oncology Pharmacy for PharmD * Minimum 3 years industry experience in early phase oncology drug development, including experience developing protocols, serving as medical monitor and evaluating patient data * Has a strong leadership presence and the ability to work effectively with other clinical and scientific leaders * Demonstrates a passion for helping patients with cancer and for the science of oncology * Has a collaborative style with internal company leadership, external development partners and investigators/medical professionals * Is a team player, works well in a team environment both as a leader and a key contributor * Has a global perspective and mindset, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds * Excellent oral, written, and medical communication skills required * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment * Ability to function at a high level in a team setting whether leading the group or contributing independently * Flexibility to adapt to changing needs in real time * Ability to build strong relationships with co-workers of various backgrounds and expertise * Excitement about the vision and mission of Neoleukin Therapeutics Neoleukin Therapeutics is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
