POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Director (MD) is responsible for providing clinical expertise and business direction in support of medical management programs to promote the delivery of high quality, constituent responsive medical care. The MD is a critical medical and business leader and contact for external providers, plan sponsor, and regulatory agencies and participates in the strategic medical management for our plan sponsors. The Medical Director will partner with medical management to increase effectiveness of medical management programs and promote integration of other Aetna medical programs.

This position supports our Commercial Self Insured Plans and provides Medical Management to those Plans.

Position can be located anywhere in country / Work At Home near an Aetna Office preferred. We are Hiring 4 Medical Directors for this Team.

Fundamental Components:

Execute predetermination reviews, reviews of claim determinations, providing clinical, coding, and reimbursement expertise.

Manage UM transactional work (front line reviews and appeals).

Build and inspire a culture of continuous improvement for better quality of care.

Oversee utilization review/quality assurance directing case management.

Provide UM services based on business demands and shifting business needs

Lead the clinical staff in the coordination of quality care on behalf of members utilizing their available benefits.

Provide clinical expertise and business direction in support of medical management programs through participation in clinical team activities in the execution of precertification, concurrent review/discharge planning, case management, disease management, appeals, pharmacy review and quality management.

Partner with medical management leadership to increase effectiveness of medical management programs and to promote the integration of other Aetna medical programs.

Provide clinical guidance in operating effective medical programs to promote member quality of care and in reviewing potential lapses in the quality of care.

Proactively use data analysis to identify opportunities for quality improvement, to positively influence the effective delivery of quality care.

Mentor employees and supports ongoing training and development of clinical staff and acts in a manner consistent with the Aetna Way.

Work collaboratively with other functional areas that interface with medical management within the National Account Care Management Solutions Team including provider relations, sales, benefits, healthcare delivery, national medical services and national accounts to achieve the business goals of the company.

Act as critical medical leader for external providers, plan sponsors, regulatory & accrediting agencies, and community in general.

Act to engage providers and facilities in improving the quality of care delivered to our members and assures that our shared business relationships are maintained and improved.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE
2-3 years of experience in Health Care Delivery System e.g., Clinical Practice and Health Care Industry.
1-2 years experience in Clinical leadership (ex. quality review, peer review, group/practice management, hospital teams)
1-2 years knowledge/experience in managed care (consultant, medical director, discharge planning)

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a MD or DO

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Medical/Medical License (MD) or (D0) is required

Medical/Board Certified, National Board Of Medical Examiners is required

Medical/DEA License is required

An Active Unrestricted State Medical License is required.

Active Board Certification in a recognized specialty is required

VIEW JOBS 12/5/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-05T00:00 Director of Medical Innovation and Education will proactively create and identify strategies to support education and generation of data/information to expand the value proposition for Pacira products. This individual will co-lead discussions with National executive leaders in post-surgical pain management, focused on deploying tactics which are customized to resolve the customer's unmet need. The Director will assist in aligning the team to function as a liaison for external stakeholder, including but not limited to large group practices, new audiences, and educational targets as it relates to key strategic initiatives to provide training and education leadership integrating support for the value proposition of Pacira products. The Medical Innovation and Education Team serves as training and education liaison between internal and external customers. Key internal relationships: Executive Team, Training, Sales, Clinical Research Team, Medical Affairs, Marketing, National Accounts and HOVA. External relationships include, but are not limited to: key opinion leaders (KOL's), department directors and system leaders of academic and non-academic institutions, corporate leaders of key group practices, allied health educators, targeted educational organizations and partnerships that can support education of target segments. * Assist in creating educational platforms with project management including budgetary accountability. * Co-lead the external professional education and training for Pacira lead product with select targets (large corporations, key educational programs, new segments). * Co-lead in preparing training materials with training team to address external customers. * Assigned to co-lead project management for strategic cooperate projects within Pacira. * Preparing and providing training platform for onboarding of new members to team. * Establish platform for KOL engagement within key corporate segment. * Co-lead in developing and execute education programs and communications to physicians and other healthcare providers. * Assist in managing monthly and quarter team tracking projects. * Coordinate peer-to-peer programs, including educational workshops to physicians and other healthcare. * Assist in establishing collaborative support for medical trainers to meet customer needs, including but not limited to workshops, preceptorships, peer-peer education. * Collaborate with executive team on annual planning and brand strategy * Incorporate planning into congress strategy on a national and regional level. * Collaborate with Marketing and Sales management to develop education, training, and data support to optimize appropriate use of Pacira products. * Establish and maintain functional working relationships with selected key corporate customer segments to further scientific and educational exchange. * Develop and present product and scientific updates to customers as requested using approved material. * Represent department and develop integrated strategies and tactic at key corporate strategic meetings, at regional planning meetings, and with key specialty meetings involving customer education and training. * Ensure effective administrative management of regional and national business as well as operational budgets. * Lead for creating new platform that will involve metric and SOP in cross-functional process improvement projects. * Position requires at least 60 – 75 % travel. Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in health science or closely related field from an accredited college or university * Minimum 6 years' progressively responsible experience in scientific education and training in clinical settings. * Minimum 4 years' experience in servicing hospital personnel on a product used in a specialty area: plastic surgery, abdominal surgery, orthopedic, operating room, or pain management. * Minimum 6 years' experience in KOL engagement. Qualifications: * Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines. * Proven ability to communicate effectively with sales and health care professionals. * Demonstrated ability to incorporate working knowledge hospital system including, pharmacy, surgical services (pre-operative, intraoperative and postsurgical care). * Excellent written and oral English communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to coach others on use of products and clinical applications, including physicians, nurses and other health care providers. * Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. * Demonstrated ability to work on a closely collaborative, cross-functional team. * Demonstrated ability to develop technical training materials * Demonstrated successful project management experience * Proven ability to develop training/education strategy. * Ability to travel up to 75%.
