Position Description:

As a Pathologist Assistant, you will provide professional evaluation, documentation, procurement, and storage of fresh tissue specimens designated for the MCW Tissue Bank. Work closely with the Director of Tissue Procurement to determine viable specimens, procure specimens according to set protocols, and perform quality control procedures. The Tissue Procurement Pathologist Assistant will also work closely with the clinical Pathologist Assistants to determine viable specimens upon delivery to the Histology Lab directly from the operating rooms.
Responsibilities:
Take part in initial examination, dissection, and processing of tissue samples. Perform gross dissection and description of surgical specimens. Identifying and procuring appropriate samples for banking. Work closely with the Director of Tissue Procurement to achieve best practice and QC methodology.
Cut and stain frozen sections.
Procure tissue according to various protocols for storage.
Review and summarize medical records for pathologists.
Work with MCW Tissue Bank staff to create and follow tissue procurement protocols.
Maintain detailed and confidential records in caTissue (the specimen tracking software utilized by the MCW Tissue Bank) in accordance with established protocols.
Maintain HIPAA compliance per MCW policies.
Ensure all banked tissues have a proper patient consent form signed.
Participate in quality assurance activities.
Instruct residents in gross dissection techniques and descriptions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.
Minimum education: Master's Degree (successful completion of formal Pathologist's Assistant Master's Degree Program)
Minimum experience: 1 year beyond training
