Job Description:

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager and physicians, the Assistant performs primary office duties, which include: assisting patients in all aspects of their care, performing certain nursing procedures, ordering/maintaining department supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Communicates effectively with patients and other staff.

  • Visible to all patients in waiting area while calling patients to exam room.

  • Voice tone is professional and courteous at all times.

  • Identifies self by name and department when answering the phone.

  • Notifies patient of office delays and checks on patients in exam rooms every 10-15 minutes during office delays.

Maintains all patient information with strict confidentially.

  • Conducts all verbal communications regarding patient care in a private area.

  • All chart list are maintained (covered or turned) so that patient information can't be read.

  • Information on charts not exposed to public view.

  • Appropriately disposes of all confidential patient information.

  • Demonstrates ability to accurately convey explanations as necessary of lab and x-ray preparation.


  • Accurately records vital signs.

  • Obtains adult blood pressure on each clinic visit.

  • Obtains weight and record in chart on each clinic visit in primary care areas.

  • Obtain height and record in chart on yearly in primary care areas.

  • Obtains and records pain scale on each clinic visit. (excluding injections only visits and visits to receive test results)

  • Collects, labels and routes specimens.

  • All allergies are verified on the front of the charts at each visit.

  • Dictates patient notes in Medical record according to protocol.

  • Reviews charge tickets to assure accuracy and completeness and place tickets in appropriate area.

  • Accurately completes request for procedures to be completed in other areas such as Lab, X-ray, EKG, etc.

  • All patients' messages are addressed before the end of office hours daily.

  • Responsible for seeing any clinic files or reports are returned to the appropriate department when office hours end and are no longer required by the clinic physician.

  • Maintains up to date BCLS certificate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Cross-trains in other departments as time permits.

Provides a safe and clean environment for patient care in the clinic setting.

  • Exam rooms are neat and uncluttered.

  • Flat surfaces are cleaned at the end of office daily.

  • All items are checked monthly for expiration dates

  • Sharps containers are maintained at a safe level.

  • Only items contaminated with blood or body fluids are disposed in Hazardous Waste containers labeled Bio-Hazard.

  • All dirty linen returned to Central Supply daily.

  • Exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and are re-ordered weekly to maintain minimal amount of supplies.

  • All solutions in secondary containers are labeled with a pre-printed information label.

  • Follows hand-washing protocol.

  • Applies removes and disposal of non-sterile gloves according to Protocol.

  • Checks refrigerator temps and records the temperatures daily according to Baptist Health Associates Policy and Procedure

Medication/Solutions are stored according to Policy

  • Any injectable drugs in a multi-dose vial will be dated and initialed upon opening and discarded 28 days from the date opened.

  • Assures all sample drugs are stored and dispensed according to Policy and Procedure

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:High School Diploma or GED. Maintains BCLS certification. EXPERIENCE: Prefer 6 to 12 months of related experience.Working Conditions:

  • Requires standing and walking more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.

  • Requires sitting less than 35% of the time.

  • Requires carrying objects weighing up to 25lbs. more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.

  • Requires lifting, pushing and pulling objects (i.e. patients) weighing up to 200 lbs. or more with assistance more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.

  • Requires crawling, squatting and kneeling less than 35% of the time.

Job Details GENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Store Manager, manage the Perishable and Food Direct Store categories including perishable products in the coolers and freezers and other food direct ship items. Supervise store employees in the absence of the Store Manager.
