ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:Non rotating 40 hour work week, Monday

  • Friday, 8:00 am

  • 5:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement conservation, education and outreach projects to address water issues including projected water demands, water supply availability, water use assessments, watershed management plans and drought contingency. Bring about strategic change, both within and outside the organization, to meet organizational goals.

Compile data and analyze projected water delivery, use and storage, conservation and population trends and service the market through use of aggressive planning and marketing strategies. Represent the City of Corpus Christi at local, regional and state levels associated with water resource planning and conservation. Develop and foster relationships with subject matter experts in coordination with local, regional and state water providers.

Negotiate contracts and/or issues related to water supply. Work with existing and develop partnerships with private landowners, public agencies and other nongovernmental organizations concerning natural resource conservation outreach, land conservation and restoration and conservation planning to evaluate potential land and water conservation projects. Assemble submittal requirements for projects and maintain project assumptions, schedules and quality estimates of cost.

Manage private consultant contracts and ensure accountability and legal compliance of projects. Prepare and deliver reports, proposals and presentations to committees and local and state legislature. Draft policies and ordinances in relation to water supply and conservation for City Council approval.

Stay abreast of state and federal regulations related to water supply planning and development and make recommendations to ensure the City's compliance. Create the operating and maintenance budget, along with preparation of the Capital Improvement Program for the Utilities division. May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Water Resource Planning, Engineering, Water Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of six (6) years of directly related experience in the essential duties of this position. Candidates with working knowledge of federal environmental laws and regulations (i.e. Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act) highly preferred.

Candidates with strong leadership and relationship building skills strongly preferred. A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered. A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
