Medical Asst Certified Medical Secretary

Answering telephones. Making appointments for patients.

Assisting patients with questions and problems. Accepting messages for physicians. Calling prescriptions to pharmacies.

Scheduling patients for surgery and obtaining pre-certification of insurance.

Clinic Days: Obtaining patient information and insurance information to verify. Taking patients to exam rooms, obtaining temperature and some history, if needed.

Billing and coding: data entry of patient information, coding operative procedures, entering charges. Follow-up for payment with insurance companies.

Filing and assembly of charts.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

High school graduate or GED.

Secretarial-related courses

Graduate of accredited medical assisting school

Successfully completed registration/certification exam

Specialized Knowledge: Ability to use dictation and transcription equipment.

Familiarity with medical terminology.

40 WPM typing accuracy.

Kind and Length of Experience: One-year experience in medical setting including medical assisting.

DESIRABLE

Registered/licensed Medical Assistant

Familiarity with Word and Excel.

Knowledge of billing, coding and insurance submission.

Three years experience in medical setting preferred.
