We have a new opening for a Medical Assistant in our busy Manhattan office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Phlebotomy lab

o Perform venipuncture/phlebotomy and collect other specimens for testing, using proper technique and Universal Precautions.

o Order tests based on physician order and insurance requirements, and prepare specimens for transport and testing

o Ensure that required consent forms for testing are completed

Participation in patient visits with the physician

o Review patient charts in preparation for physician visits

o Take heights, weights, and vital signs and document results appropriately

o Take medical histories and review purpose of visit

o Review instructions and consent forms with patients, based on prescribed treatment plan

Medications

o Give injections

o Review medication administration instructions with patients, including injection teaches

o Place orders for prescribed medications

Insurance

o Complete medication prior-authorizations and communicates with insurance companies and pharmacies for timely delivery of medications

o Complete required insurance/financial procedures and documents

o Assist with coding for medical and lab procedures

Maintenance of clinical areas

o Keep exam rooms, phlebotomy lab, and other clinical areas clean and stocked

o Sterilize equipment

o Ensure that timely preventive maintenance and repairs are performed on clinical equipment

o Ensure that biohazard materials are disposed of properly

Data entry/Computers

o Utilize Artworks to access necessary clinical information, process lab orders, and to document patient care activities, outcomes, and test results

o Utilize Mysis to access necessary demographic, insurance, scheduling, and other information, and to schedule appointments

o Utilize online systems for ordering of tests as necessary

Surgery scheduling

o Coordinate all aspects of surgery scheduling with the physician(s) and surgical facility

o Patient education and preparation for surgery, including ensuring the completion of pre-op testing and receipt and review of results.

Assist physicians, nursing, and other office staff

o Perform duties appropriately delegated by the physician and/or nursing staff, such as IUI's, following up on test results, entering information into Artworks, and calling patients with instructions, answers to questions, or to obtain outcome information

o Assist with exams and procedures

o Assist with administrative/clerical duties as necessary and appropriate

Compliance

o Maintain patient confidentiality by abiding by all aspects of HIPAA

o Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by abiding by all aspects of OSHA

o Adhere to all Practice standards, policies and procedures

Accountability and professionalism

o Develop and maintain professional and effective working relationships with all customers and Practice physicians and staff

o Actively demonstrate behaviors associated with problem-solving, multi-tasking, and accountability

o Assist with training of new MA and lab staff

Skills/Requirements

Attributes / Position Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

o High school graduate

o Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program

oAt least 1 year solid experience as a Medical Assistant.

Competencies:

o Technical skills (i.e. venipuncture/phlebotomy, injections)

o Proficiency with computer systems (EMR)

o Knowledge of and compliance with insurance requirements (i.e. prior-authorizations)

o Adherence to all standards, policies and procedures associated with safety, sanitation, confidentiality, and company operations


Position, Licensure and Certification

Requirements:

o Certified by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

o Current CPR/BLS certification
