  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.* A Medical Assistant/Certified Phlebotomy Technician (MA/CPT) provides care to a specific group of patients under the supervision of an RN/NP/PA/MD. The MA/CPT is responsible for ensuring the accurate data collection, clinical care and documentation of patient care activity, maintaining a quality standard of care, anticipating and responding to the varying daily workload and prioritizing clinic activities. An MA/CPT performs medical functions and maintains positive interpersonal relations with peers, patients, patients families and providers. * Reports to * Nursing Director, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager * Supervises * None * Ages of Patients * Neonate/Infant * Pediatric * Adolescent * Adult * Geriatric * Blood Borne Pathogens * High Potential * Qualifications * Education * Required: MA Course Completion from recognized educational institution *
    Licensure/Certification * Required:
    California State Phlebotomy License, American Heart Association BLS* Preferred: Medical Assistant Certificate * Experience * Required: Minimum one year experience as a CPT (waived for employees hired prior to August 20, 2018) and six months experience in a medical office setting. * Preferred: 2-years experience in a physician office, emergency department or urgent care setting. * Essential Responsibilities * Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. * Performs patient care within standard of practice. * Evaluates effectiveness of patient care interventions and patients progress toward expected outcomes every shift. * Assists providers so that appropriate preparation, examination and diagnostic testing occur without error and without delay. * Completes accurate documentation of all patient care activity. * Works under direction of Charge Nurse and completes assignments as directed. * Manages patient assignment within assigned shift. * Provides timely and appropriate discharge instructions to patients. * Demonstrates cost effectiveness by using judgement when opening and using supplies. * Assists with cleaning and organizing work station, cleaning and supplying exam rooms. * Maintains diagnostic test results and reports in a timely manner to Charge Nurse/Providers. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Assures that physicians are notified of results. * Faxes and copies necessary information to insurance companies, other physician offices and other facilities as necessary. * Ensures completeness and accuracy of all forms filled and signed by patients * Responds to patient pharmacy requests in collaboration with physicians. * Answers phones, retrieves voicemail messages and returns calls timely and appropriately. * Assists patients to exam/procedure rooms; obtains medical and social history, vital signs, height and weight, allergy information, medication reconciliation information and records data in EMR. * Processes patient referrals to other physician offices. * Assists physicians so that appropriate preparation, examination and diagnostic testing occur without error and without delay. * Ensures patient information is correctly entered in the database. * Assists with the release of patient records and films to patients. * Assists physicians as needed with patient exams and procedures. * Obtains physician signatures on appropriate documents. * Assists with medical and office supplies ordering. * Assists physicians with scribe duties. * Performs other duties as assigned.
