ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE

The Medical Assistant works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare by providing excellent patient-centered care and services within a dynamic team environment. The Medical Assistant supports various providers (physicians, PAs and RNs) and ensures efficient patient-centered care in one of three main categories: direct patient care, provider & team support, and clinical administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DIRECT PATIENT CARE

The Medical Assistant communicates with patients and performs clinical services to ensure high quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

• Takes patient vital signs and obtains patient intake information.

• Performs clinical procedures such as blood draws, vaccines, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, and EKGs

• Discusses patient needs and provides education and resources to patients directly

• Ensures exam rooms are stocked, cleaned and set up for examinations and procedures

PROVIDER AND TEAM SUPPORT

The Medical Assistant anticipates provider needs and proactively solves problems to support the team.

• Coordinates provider workflows to ensure efficient patient care

• Ensures provider has all pertinent information required for each patient visit including diagnostic images, labs and required screenings

• Assists other providers and care teams in women's health, pediatrics and general medicine departments as needed

CLINICAL ADMINISTRATION

• Utilizes electronic health records to order, process and document clinical treatment plans for patient as directed by the provider

• Conveys information to patients via telephone or email under the direction of a provider or Registered Nurse

• Provides patient with requested documents after review to ensure forms are complete, accurate and executed by the provider

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED required

• Medical Certificate from an accredited program required

• One year as a medical assistant preferred

Bilingual (English/Spanish) or (English/Arabic) preferred/required.

Additional Requirements: Must have own watch with a second hand to count the pulse rate per minute and the respiratory rate per minute. Must wear the watch at all times while working.

Pay range: $23.00 - $29.59 per hour, depending on experience.
