Job Description Job Description SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the physician and the patient-focused on improving patient care coordination and better patient outcomes. The Medical Assistant will provide assistance to the physician with activities related to interventional pain management services, this will include preparing equipment, ordering supplies, performing pre-operative and post-operative support to patients.

The Medical Assistant works in close collaboration with the Physician and other health care personnel assuring smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operations by performing chart preparation prior to the patient’s visit, obtaining necessary information (lab/test results, etc), and ensuring appropriate documentation in the patient’s record, identifying and closing care gaps, and communicating with the physician anything that will need to be addressed. Medical Assistants are expected to provide friendly and professional customer service to patients as well as hospitals and surgery centers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists with patient preparation and positioning during fluoroscopic procedures as directed by the provider.

Ensures that procedure patients have a current consent and history and physical not greater than 30 days old and a complete medication list is in the medical record. This task should be completed by noon the day prior to scheduled procedures so that it can be reviewed. Performs routine specialized procedures such as equipment sterilization, sterile instrumentation preparation, and specimen collection under established protocols and direct supervision by the Physician.

Maintains stocks of medicines and medical supplies as necessary for pain procedures. Prepares procedure & exam rooms for the clinician prior to scheduled patients’ appointments. Lock and secure cabinets and drawers.

Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters. During routine pre-op and post-op calls. Reporting any concerns to the provider immediately.

Assists and escorts patients to the examination room. Reviews patient history and current medical problems as well as the reason for procedure/visit. Documents all information given by the patient to be available to the physician.

Follows the direction of the physician and assist with any procedures as deemed by the physician. Assists patients with questions or concerns regarding their treatment under the supervision of the physician. Conduct pre-operative and post-operative patient calls to patients, reporting any findings or concerns to the provider for additional instruction.

Maintain equipment and maintenance & testing logs for equipment. Perform sterilization of equipment by way of cold sterilization techniques as well as an autoclave. Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and management.

Informs management of any potential issues in reference to the safety of patients and other employees. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPPA guidelines/regulations. Interacts professionally with other employees, patients, and suppliers.

Maintain the cleanliness and adequate supplies of the procedure room and designated areas. Returns all phone calls in a timely manner to the patient. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Other projects and administrative duties as assigned by the manager. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Must be organized and detail-oriented. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.

Strong initiative and planning skills. Excellent communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.

Strong interpersonal skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to take vital signs. Knowledge of computers and database/word processing/spreadsheet software.

Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment. Ability to take regular direction from physicians. Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks and demands given tight time constraints while ensuring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Demonstrates knowledge of insurance policies and programs and requirements for them. Demonstrate a strong commitment and dedication to attendance and self-improvement. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program Current certification as a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (Prefered). 2-3 years of similar job experience in a medical office preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS Clinical office setting with a high volume of patients. Maybe occasional lifting of supplies up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to assist patients with standing, sitting, and getting on the examination table. Low to moderate overtime is required throughout the year. Must be able to work extended hours as necessary due to the physician’s schedule.

Fast-paced environment. Constant interaction with physicians and patients. Must be able to stand, pivot & walk frequently throughout the workday. Prolonged periods of sitting.
