What You Will Do:

Responsible for assisting medical staff with patient care. Responsible for performing a variety of clinical duties including but not limited to: monitoring patient flow, obtaining and documenting patient vitals, document current medications, chief complaint, performing technical laboratory functions including phlebotomy, monitor/track/charge medical equipment, scheduling procedures and tests. Responsible for performing a variety of office duties including but not limited to: greeting patients, vendors, and other visitors and notifying appropriate staff of their arrival, operating switchboard or telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls, obtaining current and accurate insurance information each visit, verifying coverage through insurance company, obtaining pre-certifications or prior authorizations as needed, and maintaining daily accurate records for timely billing of accounts.

  • Fulfilling patient care responsibilities which may include: accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients with transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, and assess patient's general condition, particularly the acutely ill patient and ensures that needs are met.

  • Performs selected medical assistant duties, collecting history, vital signs, and assist physician(s) with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments, and provide direct patient care as ordered.

  • Obtains prior authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.

  • Manages referrals through EMR.

  • Documents all interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed and hospital data in the EMR.

  • Follows all incentive guidelines by helping the practice meet a variety of incentive program goals, including Meaningful Use.

  • Labeling, documenting, and tracking all specimens or tests ordered/received following set standards and reporting all test results to the physician.

  • Charting patient encounter day of visit to ensure documented, organized and chronological medical record with the submission of timely, accurate and complete information to the Central Billing Office.

  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating the physicians' advice and instructions to patients/families and assisting with scheduling appointments, tests or procedures serving as a role model for customer service.

  • Fulfilling environment responsibilities by setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol and cleaning exam/procedure rooms between patient visits adhering to infection control/safety guidelines.

  • Cleaning of medical equipment, including sterilizer, according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records, requesting maintenance when needed to ensure patient safety, timely repairs and proper functioning of medical office equipment.

  • Organizing, storing and restocking of supplies in exam/procedure rooms and maintains an inventory system to ensure adequate levels of supplies with emphasis on patient care and cost containment.

What You Will Need:

  • Medical Assistant certification required. Experience in a medical office preferred.

  • Must have the ability to perform as a Medical Scribe if needed from time-to-time.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is desired.

  • Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, co-workers and the public.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with medical and administrative staff, patients, co-workers and insurance companies.

  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.

  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, and decision making. Skill in analysis and interpretation of data, and preparation of reports. Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques, appropriate use of universal precautions, appropriate charting of patient data.

  • Skill in point of care testing, vital signs, and other clinical aspects of the office.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge in organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives. Basic medical assisting principles and protocols, infection control, environmental safety, patient confidentiality, and medical chart reporting/records. Knowledgeable in medical office procedures and medical terminology.
