Walliongford ProHealth Physicians, part of Optum has an immediate full-time opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented Medical Assistant to join our team. This is a full-time (40 hours per week/8 hour shift) position. Office is open Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Medical Assistant supports the Care team and its patients through patient care, clinical and administrative tasks including patient intake, receiving and responding to patient phone calls, and documenting patient interactions

  • The MA performs duties within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, a provider or physician

  • Performing EKGs and other office testing as well as performing quality controls

  • Carries out standing orders consistent with ProHealth's policies and procedures

  • Schedules tests, treatments and follow-up visits on behalf of patients

  • In advance of the visit, perform Pre-visit Preparation to confirm that all needed information is available

  • Delivers quality customer service/patient care

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant Program

  • Certified Medical Assistant or willing to attain certification within 120 days of start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with an electronic health records

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding

  • One year of Medical Assistant experience in a physician practice setting

  • Bilingual English / Spanish

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push or pull >35 lbs. with assistance

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery

  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing

  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving

  • Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids

  • Ability to discriminate shades of color when reading dipstick

Location: 1062 Barnes Road, Wallingford, CT. Nurses may also travel to Meriden office. The office is open Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM and Saurday - Sunday 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Nurses work 8 - 10 hour shifts, and either 4 or 5 days per week. Nurses are required to work one evening per week and one weekend per month. Primary Responsibilities: * Order vaccines as needed * Oversight of the medical teams CLIA competences * Serve as liaison between patients, staff and providers * Support the care team and its patients by providing and documenting nursing care following established standards and practices * Provide patient care and education and assist in locating and coordinating services from other providers and resources * Serve as liaison between patients, staff and providers * Document all patient interactions and other clinical activities accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record (EHR) * Demonstrate respect for patients and ProHealth staff by presenting a friendly, courteous manner at all times and maintaining patient confidentiality * Provide attention to patients in a manner that builds confidence, trust and loyalty * Act as a member of the care team, including preparing patients to be seen by collecting and recording (as applicable): Height and weight, Temperature, Blood pressure, Head circumference, Current medications and Chief complaint and history * Triage patients according to approved protocols and consistent with ProHealth's Appointment and Scheduling Guidelines * Answer and document patient phone calls; take complete messages and route to providers as needed using the EHR * Provide and document patient care such as giving injections and performing preventive screenings * Educate patients regarding their illness or injury and provide instruction regarding self-management of their condition * Carry out standing orders (i.e., authorizing prescription refills and ordering tests) consistent with ProHealth's policies and procedures * Schedule tests, treatments and follow up visits on behalf of patients. Assist patients with identifying suitable outside resources for disease management and other services; refer patients when appropriate * Monitor task list in order to respond to tasks in a timely manner, follow up on overdue orders and monitor status of critical referrals * Order supplies and maintain appropriate records.
