DescriptionThe Medical Assistant is certified to manage the customer flow throughout the clinic and assists providers in the management and treatment of their customers, individualizing care to the age of the customer. These customers may include infant, child, adolescent, adult, or geriatric. The Medical Assistant also provides telephone support and facilitates communication between customers and providers.

The Medical Assistant takes direction from the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers

Primary Care

  • Addresses health care directives and safety concerns with customers during rooming process

  • May assist with prescription refills under the supervision of the provider according to the Clinic Medication Refill Policy.

  • Assists customers via telephone in the clinic Message Center. The CMA may collect information and transmit that information to a provider so that the provider can make a decision about customer care. The CMA may give the provider's advice to the customer; however, the CMA cannot perform telephone triage.

  • May perform x-ray duties as assigned and has passed the x-ray operator exam.

  • Performs clinic laboratory tasks including order processing, specimen collection and processing, and diagnostic testing. Completes annual Lab competency testing. Quality control functions include performing calibrations, proficiency testing and attending in-services with regard to lab changes in procedure and/or equipment

Accountabilities:

  • Assists provider with care of customers of all age groups.

  • Ensures that exam rooms are prepared for exam.

  • Follows the standard rooming process when rooming customers: obtains vitals and reconciles medications with customers.

  • Performs diagnostic tests including but not limited to EKG's, holter and event monitor set-up, vision and hearing screens, x-rays, nebulizer treatments, peak flows, O2 sats. Communicates outcomes verbally and documents appropriately.

  • Notifies customer of test and procedure results under provider direction.

  • Gives immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by provider.

  • Performs laboratory specimen collection as needed.

  • Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

  • The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.

  • The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.

RequirementsExperience

  • Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred.

  • Passed x-ray operator's examination or willing to take exam according to individual clinic needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner.

  • Knowledge of and skill in using computer software applications.

Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent (i.e., GED) required.

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.

  • Must be certified; or pass the certification exam within 6 months of hire as a condition of continued employment.

VIEW JOBS 12/3/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-03T00:00 Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to qualify donors for the plasma pheresis process. 1 In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assists qualified donors in completing the screening process. The screening procedures includes but are not limited to: assessing the self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions associated with the donation process, referring donors to medical staff when appropriate and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature. Performs finger stick to obtain sample to obtain donor's hematocrit and total protein levels. 2 Educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. Explains the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. Ensures that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally. 3 May be involved in registering applicant and transfer donors based upon completion of appropriate training and operational needs of the center. 4 May answer the telephone and assists in providing appropriate information to the caller. 5 Maintains alertness and awareness to any reaction by donor may have during or after the pheresis process and notifies appropriate staff. 6 Conducts daily calibration of equipment and resolves calibration out-of-specification issues according to the SOPs. 7 Troubleshoots equipment failures. Creates incident documentation, removes and/or replaces equipment from service. 8 May provide guidance and technical training about processes and procedures to Reception Technicians and other staff as required. 9 Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues. 10 Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs. 11 Understands the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable. 12 Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions. May conduct routine audits of these internal procedures and documentation. 13 Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information. 14 May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business. 15 Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business. 16 Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
