Position Overview:

We are searching for a reliable Medical Assistant to perform various office and clinical duties to keep our healthcare center running efficiently. Our Medical Assistant will work directly with healthcare center staff to collect test samples, draw blood, give injections, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in basic examinations.

What you'll do:

  • Update and maintain all client records and assist in transitioning hard copy records to digital format

  • Record patient information such as vital signs, weight and changes in medical history prior to each appointment

  • Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments

  • Work in the front office taking care of tasks such as answering phone calls and greeting patients as they enter the facility as needed

  • Assist the medical staff and office manager in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for new materials as needed

  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations

  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

  • Understand the role of educating patient along with providing MA responsibilities

  • Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient's electronic chart

  • Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant

  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information are filed are available in patients' medical records prior to their appointment

  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required

  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls

  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants

  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, etc.)

  • Perform minor medical office procedures

  • Able to perform an EKG

  • Give injections

  • Draw blood

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient matters and patient data as per HIPAA regulations

What you'll need:

Experience / Training / Education

  • Associate's or technical degree required; Equivalent experience may be considered

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Medical Assistant

  • Current State Certificate in Phlebotomy - Current State Certificate in Phlebotomy

  • Proficiency in essential computer programs including MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Experience in working within a system-centered environment

  • Current certificate in CPR and Adult First Aid

  • Certificate in AED preferred, not required

Knowledge of

  • Best practices in travel planning, calendaring and web-based meeting options, organization methods, and Microsoft technologies

  • Medical terminology

  • EHRs


  • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette

  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow

  • The ability to administer injections

  • Strong organization skills

  • May be required to work overtime to complete work or projects; overtime shall require advance approval from Supervisor

  • Travel between clinic sites may be required. Primary travel to California. Travel to other locations may be required

  • Meets all applicable safety requirements for the position and work environment

  • Completes other duties as assigned

Physical requirements/working conditions:

  • Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment most of the day

  • May stoop or crouch to access files or storage

  • Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses

  • Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and especially via the telephone

  • Lifts up to 20 pounds regularly; lifts 30 pounds occasionally

  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and siting

  • Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood borne pathogens

  • Exposed to noise levels typical of office environments

Mental and reasoning requirements:

  • Uses critical thinking skills to work with documents and spreadsheets and interpret information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Able to problem solve

  • Able to formulate appropriate responses to requests for data, services and information from internal or external customers with a wide range of personalities and demeanors

  • Able to work independently and react quickly to changing priorities with a consistent sense of urgency

Job Summary:Under the direction of the health care provider, Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all patients. Key Responsibilities: * Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider. * Obtain and record vital signs including but not limited to, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem. * May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. * Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topically, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration. * May perform routine tests including but not limited to EKG's. * May pend orders in the EHR for provider sign off as directed. * Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician. * Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol. * Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider. * Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s). * Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required. * Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights using HIPAA compliance. * Perform other duties as assigned by practice manager, supervisor, Lead or as requested by healthcare provider(s). #MISSIONCRITICAL Qualifications Education/Work Experience Requirements * High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) and completion of a Medical Assistant certification program at an accredited institution that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities. * One year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
