Located in Central Florida, LifeStream primarily serves the residents of Lake, Citrus and Sumter Counties, with additional programs located in Orange, Marion, Hernando counties.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT - MAT 047
JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant is responsible for directly supporting a healthcare department or unit by completing administrative and clinical tasks for a physician's office, hospital, outpatient clinic, or other healthcare facility i.e., clinic, medical director, clinic staff (RN), outpatient practitioners. The duties vary with the location, specialty, and size or complexity of the practice. A successful Medical Assistant will be well versed in psychiatry, capable of understanding mental status, and the use of psychotropic medications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties may include:
Entering/maintaining electronic health records
Answering telephones and greeting patients with outstanding customer service
Updating and filing patient medical records
Coding and filling out insurance forms
Scheduling appointments
Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
Clinical Duties may include:
Taking medical histories, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination
Assisting the physician during exams
Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, drawing blood, performing basic laboratory tests
Instructing patients about medication and special diets
Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician, authorizing prescription refills as directed
Taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures and changing dressings
Patient Liaison:
Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the physician's office and often explain the physician's instructions

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Possess or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
MA Certification preferred
Experience:
Some college preferred
Minimum of One (1) year experience in a position that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities as a medical assistant.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
