Penn Medicine/LGHealth has an immediate opening for a full time Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant to support Manheim Family Medicine.

The MA/CMA will provide back office clinical support (patient care). This position is full time totaling 40 hours per week during operating office hours (Monday-Thursday 7:30AM-8PM, Friday 7:30AM-5:00PM, occasional Saturday morning rotations 8AM-12PM).

This position is located in Manheim, Pa.

SUMMARY: Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine is currently seeking a Certified Medical Assistant. The Certified Medical Assistant position is with Manheim Family Medicine, in Manheim, PA, Lancaster County . The CMA provides clinical support services to patients under the supervision and direction of a provider and or licensed nurse . Hours would be Full-time 1.0 8:30am-5:00pm one evening pre week occ weekend/Holiday.


Prepares patient for visit by using appropriate rooming standards tool.

Administers injections, as prescribed by provider and in accordance with practice protocol. Provides gross observations to the provider or licensed nurse for interpretation as necessary.

Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Prepares and assists providers with various procedures, minor surgeries and other exams as designated by the provider.

Preforms Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine and strep tests.

Removes sutures and changes dressings on wounds as necessary.

Provides clinical advice by phone/electronic correspondence in accordance with established triage protocols and relays information to the patient. Consults a provider or licensed nurse with questions or information that fall outside of the established protocols.

Authorizes prescription refills as directed by the provider.

Assures exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit. Maintains and cleans medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.


  • High school diploma or general equivalent (GED) is required

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program required OR Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT or NAHTR) required within six (6) months of hire

  • CPR Certification required

This position requires PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances.

VIEW JOBS 9/19/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-18T00:00 General Summary: Medical Assistant, under the general supervision of the Clinical Nursing Coordinator, the Practice Manager, or Physician/Advanced Practice Clinician (APC), provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care and services to patients and their families. Assists in the care of patients, performs treatments, administers medications (if both qualified and appropriately supervised), and reinforces education for patients and their families when appropriate, as directed by their Physician/APC. Duties and Responsibilities: 1 Obtains and documents reason for visit, patient vital signs to include both pain scale and pulse oximetry as appropriate. 2 Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. 3 Collects specimens as directed by Physician/APC. Uses appropriate equipment and protocols for collecting, handling, testing, labeling and preparing for transportation to lab including proper identification, storage procedures and techniques. 4 Ensures all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired supplies and medications. 5 Prepares patients for scheduled procedures by assuring patient is undressed and appropriately gowned. 6 Assesses sterility of instruments, ensures they are intact, and supplies are set-up. 7 Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required, when applicable. Handles and stores instruments, equipment, and supplies appropriately. 8 Completes necessary paperwork, prior authorizations and/or scheduling of appointments for patients who are ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services. 9 Maintains patient records to ensure an accurate record of the patients medical treatment. 10 Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. 11 Under the direct supervision of a Physician/APC, prepares and administers vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed and as competencies permit. Utilizes the Six Rights of Medication Administration. Asks prescribed screening questions, identifies risks and contraindications, questions and observes for appropriate responses or adverse reactions. 12 Documents and processes prescription requests and refills per Physician/APC order and or policy. 13 Performs basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the Physician/APC and as certified competent (i.e. EKGs, ear lavage, vision tests etc.). 14 Provides health care information materials and reviews with patient and family members as directed by Physician/APC (i.e. VIS sheets etc.). 15 Under the direction of the Physician/APC, tracks, reviews, and monitors the follow-up of diagnostic test results to ensure the Physician/APC have verified and the patient has been notified. Relays information to patient from the provider regarding results and follow-up instructions. 16 Obtains basic health information from patient/family members to review with Physician/APC or clinical resource person at the time of the visit or over the phone. Uses this information to assist Physician/APC in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems, should access not be readily available at the practice. 17 Gives basic care information to patients/family members per provider guidelines and instructions. 18 Uses Universal Precautions with every patient and visitor encounter.
