Location: This is a Float Pool position with self-scheduling and rotations to different offices throughout the Ascension Medical Group

What You Will Do

As an Associate with Ascension Medical Group, you will have the opportunity to assist with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.


  • Assists with treatments ordered by physician as supervised by physician or registered nurse. Performs select clinical duties.

  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

  • Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.

  • Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies. Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

  • Administers medications including injectables according to approved procedures and provider instructions. Documents administration in patient's chart.

  • Collects and packages specimens for lab processing. Performs routine office lab tests, EKGs, X-Rays, and other procedures as ordered. Instructs patients regarding preparation for tests and signing consent forms when necessary.

  • Complies with CLIA, OSHA, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards. Participates in in-service programs as needed. Follows infection controls and safety policies.

What You Will Need


  • Required Credential(s):

  • Medical Assistant certification or registration required within 90 days of hire/transfer date.

  • One or more of the following:

  • Basic Life Support Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.


  • HS or Equivalent

  • High school diploma or equivalent required Graduate of a Medical Assistant Certification program and/or graduate of a certified EMT program preferred

Work Experience:

  • 6 months of previous medical office experience preferred.

VPA in-home physicians collaborate with agencies to establish in-home treatment plans and certify the need for services. VPA partners with over 1,000 home health agencies, collaborates with independent and assisted living communities, and works with skilled nursing facilities and hospitals nationally to coordinate services and patient transitions to home care. Position Description Medical Assistant will assist VPA Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting. Essential Duties and responsibilities * Prepares daily route and drives physician to scheduled visits * Prepares patients for examination and treatment * Takes vital signs * Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture only) as ordered by a physician (must be under the direct supervision of physician assistant or nurse practitioner Arizona only) * Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab (must be under the direct supervision of physician assistant or nurse practitioner Arizona only) * Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing * Logs information in compliance with CLIA standards * Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPAA requirements.
