Job Summary :

To assist in the delivery of health care and patient care management in a clinical capacity. Daily responsibilities of the position are based solely on the needs of the practice at any given time.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1.Provides directly and through delegation patient care for facility clients.

a. Maintains knowledge of normal/abnormal parameters that identify clients at risk.

b. Provides patient care in accordance to standards and guidelines.

c. Responds to telephone calls and triages appropriately.

d. Provides patient with reassurance, accurate teaching and direction.
2.Ensures efficient delivery of healthcare services throughout the duration of the patient visit.

a. Ensures that medical records are completed, accurate and updated.

b. Initiates patient contact and prepares patient for examination. Obtains vital signs, weight, age, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory, history and chief complaint.

c. Observes patients with abnormal signs and symptoms, communicates their condition to the physician and documents the same in the medical record.

d. Ensures patient understanding of physician instruction upon discharge.

e. Documents patients medical record entries and documents charge information into electronic medical record for billing.
3.Assist with testing and treatment procedures under the Physicians supervision.

a. Assists physician in applying splints and dressings.

b. Performs and follows through in all indicated orders from physician.

c. Assists with sample medications and sample medication logs.

d. Arranges and administers any necessary patient testing or admission.

Obtains appropriate referrals required. Retrieves test results as needed and notifies patient.

e. Assists physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.

f. Obtains appropriate consents before all invasive procedures or immunizations are preformed.

g. Distributes patient education materials as directed. Assists in patient instruction and ascertains patient understanding regarding treatment and medication usage.

h. Performs laboratory tests and treatments as prescribed.

i. Assists in maintaining laboratory log.
4.Ensures all patient care areas, equipment and materials are appropriately stocked and maintained.

a. Maintains and organizes adequate supply of patient education materials.

b. Orders and maintains required supplies and equipment for clinical care areas ensuring exam rooms are stocked appropriately.

c. Keep exam rooms clean, free of waste and organized in accordance with cleaning protocol. Ensures that instruments are sterile and equipment is in working order.
5.All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required:
1.Graduation from accredited high school.
2.Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
3.Or five years of relevant clinical experience in a medical practice.

ACUTE CARE NP EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED, HOWEVER CANDIDATES WITH AT LEAST 3 YEARS OF CRITICAL CARE RN EXPERIENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED. THE COVERAGE WILL BE 24/7 TO INCLUDE DAY AND NIGHT SHIFTS. THE COVERAGE WILL BE FOR ALL SERVICES, AND DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: PATIENT EVALUATIONS RAPID RESPONSE/CODES URGENT PATIENT MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES (AIRWAY, CENTRAL LINES, A-LINES, CHEST TUBES AND OTHER PROCEDURES CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF PATIENTS AS REQUIRED CONTINUAL COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER PROVIDERS INVOLVED WITH THE ADMITTED PATIENTS CARE AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AS NEEDED ALL HIRES WILL GO THROUGH AN IN-DEPTH 3-4 MONTH FULLY PAID TRAINING BEFORE BEGINNING THEIR DUTIES AT EACH HOSPITAL. The APRN/PA Transition to Practice Program is a 12-month program sponsored by Advanced Practice Nursing at the Nursing Institute and PA Services at the Chief of Staff Office at the Cleveland Clinic. The Transition to Practice Program is designed to refine the skills and knowledge of the new graduates and experienced APRN/PAs changing specialty practice areas. The APRN/PAs participating in the program will be full-time employees, hired by, and reporting to their respective clinical institutes. APRN: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification. PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in this role provide advanced care to patients within any setting in which patients have complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity medical interventions and/or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care. Job Responsibilities: * Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan. * Must be able to work with collaborating physician. * Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board * Autonomously takes initiative responding to and taking the lead in rapid response, codes and stroke alerts, admissions to the ICU, as well as performing specialized procedures , such as, blood draws, IV starts, intubation, arterial line placement, central venous catheter placement , ventilator management, in addition to other specific procedures as necessitated by the patient situation. Must be prepared to function independently in house as the sole provider in hospital. * Provides information and answers routine questions of patients and families regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations. * Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards. * May participate in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members. * Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment. * Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary. * May serve as clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals. * May serve as Faculty for onboarding new employees. * Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior.
