This will include actively participating and supporting primary clinical teams. The Medical Assistant behaves in a professional manner, and consistently demonstrates and promotes the values of the organization. The Medical Assistant will work with and receive supervision from the Practice Administrator, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.


Actively participates in maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives, including but not limited to the Physician Billing computer system and patient satisfaction survey.

Maintains high level of competence on Physician Billing computer system.

Utilize computer system to schedule appointments and track referrals.

Opens and closes office as required.

Assists in capturing patient demographic information.

Takes active role in facilitation of team approach to functions within the department:

  • Attends departmental meetings.

  • Actively participates as a team member in resolution of problems as they are identified.

  • Analyzes current procedures, bringing suggestions for improvement to the attention of team members and supervisors for consideration.

Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient's medical record prior to the appointment with recent test results and correspondence and determines needed services per practice protocol.

Confers with the physician, NP or PA regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders to the patient visit.

Prepares patients for the examination and treatment by escorting them from the reception area to the exam room prior to the provider entering the exam room.

  • Height, weight and vital signs

  • Update medication list

  • Update allergies in record

  • Update personal, family and social history

  • Inquire about smoking status

  • Obtains the Chief Complaint for the visit

Provides other patient care services as needed/directed:

  • Keeps exam rooms clean

  • Maintaining clinical supplies in exam rooms

  • Cleans and autoclaves contaminated instruments

  • Gives injections or immunizations, within State approved scope of practice

  • Phlebotomy

  • Pulmonary Functions/Nebulizer

  • EKG

  • OB/GYN exams assist as needed


Disposes of Bio-Hazardous waste and regular waste per practice protocol.

Maintains supplies:

  • Medical supplies

  • Disposing of expired Sample medication

As appropriate:

  • Assists with scheduling outpatient testing

  • Pre-certifying patients for procedures and referral processing

  • Responds to patient communications within practice guidelines.

  • Refill medications per practice protocol.

Communicates and Coordinates with providers or Care Coordinators regarding:

  • Hospital discharge

  • ED visits

  • Consulting physicians

  • Community resources

  • Disease management

  • Patient Self management

  • Patient and/or family education on chronic conditions

  • Individualized patient care plan

  • Follow-up contact with patient as indicated to ensure compliance with

recommendations, medications, labs or other testing as well as specialist visits.

Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.


Assists "front staff" as needed.

Attends educational training and inservices, maintains professional affiliations, and participates in other professional development activities as required.

Other related duties as assigned.


Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours at time). Requires continual use of fingers for patient care, writing and computer entry. Routinely uses upper extremities; occasional requirement to lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds. Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds. Regularly requires ability to stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level. Requires ability to hear normal conversation and good general, near and peripheral vision.


Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator.


Gloves, masks, gowns and safety needles


Assisting with procedures, handling changing responsibilities and priorities between back and front office.


Receives direct supervision from the Office Manager with additional supervision from the office physicians.


Interfaces with employers, patients, visitors, and members of the health care team. Excellent verbal and written skills are required


  • Demonstrates mature, conscientious and professional behavior.

  • Accepts responsibility and follows directions.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public.

  • Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in emergency situations.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard.


Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program or two years similar experience.


Two years office experience in a similar setting preferred.

BLS/CPR: Current or within 60 days of hire; through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association


Generally days, evenings, and weekends as assigned.

Through use of the Table Management System (TMS), the server assistant is responsible for seating the guests and assisting the service team with ensuring that each guest leaves happy. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Maintain a gracious, pleasant and friendly attitude, while contributing to a teamwork-based work environment. * Take pride in his/her appearance while adhering to the Ruby Tuesday Dress & Appearance Policy. * Responsible for set-up, cleanliness, and organization of the front door area before, during, and after every shift. * Adhere to proper procedures for utilizing the TMS system to control the flow of guest seating. Utilizes the Wait and Reservation Lists in the TMS system. * Responsible for understanding and setting up the floor plan in the TMS system. * Welcome each guest in a hospitable, courteous, and friendly manner. Take guest information and accurately quote wait times when tables are not immediately available. * Promptly seat guests in the bar/dining area when seating is available. * Present menus and promotional materials, while suggesting specific food especially the Garden Bar and beverages to the guest; provide children with crayons and menu/coloring sheet. * Ensure each guest receives a friendly farewell. Observe tables and keep track of clean, dirty, and unoccupied tables. * Answer the phone and assist with answering guest questions in a friendly, courteous manner. * Accommodate the needs and requests of guests such as refilling beverages, providing silverware, etc. * Deliver biscuits, food, and beverages as needed to assist Servers and Bartenders. * Follow all sanitation and safety guidelines at all times. * Assist with light clean as you go GB cleanliness by wiping down with sanitizer towel as needed. * Clear dirty dishes, glass, and tableware and reset tables according to Ruby Tuesday standards. * Remove bus tubs and dirty dishes from behind the bar area. * Clean and sweep around tables as needed. * Position requires slip-resistant shoes. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or High School equivalency preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires regular attendance; requires the ability to stand or walk for hours at a time; frequently required to hear, speak, walk, crawl, climb, stand, reach, bend, balance, kneel, stoop, lift and carry items up to 50 lbs; requires ability to tolerate significant changes in temperature, and frequent immersion of hands in water and cleaning or sanitizing solutions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
