POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Medical Assistant in our practice, you will function as a champion of patient care, you can do everything from patient charting to preparing exam/treatment rooms to giving injections and assisting the physician. The Medical Assistant also functions as a health and safety leader to ensure patients receive high quality, patient-centered care.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Clinical responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting lab specimens, performing EKG's, and administering IM injections.

  • Performs all x-ray/imaging services according to provider's orders and updates patient charts accordingly.

  • Collecting patient history and documenting EHR appropriately.

  • May apply splints, dressings and bandages.

  • Assisting with check-in/check-out when needed including auditing charts.

  • Maintaining records and logs on activities including in-house lab work, drug screens, and lab work sent out to other labs.

  • Keeps patients and visitors informed of clinic progress.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of clinical experience in a patient care setting is highly preferred.

  • Experience using an EHR system is extremely helpful.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assistants or completion of an approved program (BOTP) is required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • General Medical Radiology Technician (GMRT), Limited Medical Radiology Technician (LMRT), or Non-Registered Technician (NCT) license is required in state of residency.

  • Current certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred.

  • Current BLS Certification is required within 30 days of start.

  • Must obtain a Federal Breath Alcohol Screening Certification and Federal Drug Screening Certification within 3 months of employment or promotion.

  • NEVADA ONLY: Must obtain an Office Laboratory Assistant license within 30 days of employment or promotion.

This includes assisting in prepping patients for examinations or procedures, assisting with procedures, relaying instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person, and collecting patient data. Documenting patient concerns, patient messages, and care provided to the patient in the patients medical record for the physician's review. Administrating medications specifically directed by the physician and performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation. The lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the back office and other duties as assigned by the area manager. This position may have access to third party credit card information and transactional systems (cash registers, point of sale devices, applications supporting credit card transactions, and reports or other documents containing credit card information) from single transactions or a single card at a time. Qualifications Six (6) month's experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Assistant preferred. Have current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers (includes AED training) through the American Heart Association (AHA) and maintain BLS Certification while employed. Impact of Decisions: Serious impact on patient relationships, physician efficiency, stewardship of clinic resources, and our image in the community. Internal/External Contacts: Patients, physicians and other clinic staff, internal and external laboratory and imaging staff, hospital staff, patient family members, law offices, lawyers, and vendors. Reports to the department Supervisor. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills are essential. Medical terminology, familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding procedures and reference tools, and pharmacology appropriate to the Medical Assistant scope of practice is essential.
