POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant III provides assistance to physicians with patient related procedures, patient history and is responsible for maintaining a smooth patient flow, and functions as liaison between the physicians, patients, and medical office staff.
Must be functioning as a Medical Assistant with one or more of the following additional duties: Lead Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant Trainer that has completed Advance Medical Assistant training program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Medical Assistant
Assists providers in performing office procedures and duties related to patient care as requested adhering to documentation standards based on Office Protocols.
Performs basic Medical Assistant functions based on assigned office such as Injections, Immunization, Pulmonary function testing, Snellen, Hearing exams and Electrocardiograms.
Consistently assesses the patient flow by identifying areas or problems that are causing interruptions
Collects clinic performance and quality metrics and produces reports for management
Assists Clinic Practice Manager with in-service education, training/orientation, performance evaluations, safety, bloodborne pathogens, and current health issues of department and personnel
Prepares monthly schedule for support staff and provides document to Clinic Practice Manager in a timely manner
Assists in maintaining clinical supply stock. Responsible for ordering lab requisitions and supplies. Responsible to setup facility/medical records audit to ensure readiness and passing score
Coordinates equipment repair and maintenance
Responsible in training/orientation of new back and front office employees
Responsible for training/orientation of new MA/Medical Receptionist
Participates in educational/informational meetings and seminars
Responsible for implementing and maintaining OSHA and safety policies and procedures. Attends OSHA and safety meetings.
Works in conjunction with supervisor when Manager is on PTO or any absence.
Understand and demonstrate competency of disease management including performing all quality metrics for MIPS/HEDIS
Performs other duties as assigned.
Medical Assistant Trainer
Responsible for providing standardized orientation, training, and competency for new clinical employees and students in the clinic setting using established resources and tools.
Conducts on-site personal instruction and direction
Coordinates training schedule with the department manager, assigning student to other staff or other departments to enhance learning experience
Demonstrates patient care and workflow management
Advises and assists trainees in achieving stated orientation objectives, ensuring completion of all required elements
Evaluates orientation and training resources/material and provides feedback to management regarding effectiveness and suggestions for improvement
Provides weekly performance updates to the department manager
Teaches the new Medical Assistants how to become proficient using the EHR system while adhering to Standardized Workflows. Act as a Super User in the EMR system, attends Super User meetings, and teaches tips and tricks to staff. Monitors and coaches all new Medical Assistants giving regular feedback to the Clinic Practice Manager until they are successfully working on their own.
Assists Physicians with computerized order entry for Laboratory and Radiology orders to improve quality metrics and process medication refills according to protocol.
Consistently assesses schedule by identifying those areas or problems that may cause interruptions to patient flow and resolves them or brings to the attention of Clinic Practice Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate from accredited school
Maintains certification by completing CMEs and keeping licensure updated
BLS certified and knowledge of emergency procedures
B. Qualifications/Experience
Minimum of 5-year experience in a medical practice environment. Experience must be in an acute care, ambulatory care, primary health care, specialty health care, or Medicare Advantage environment setting.
Internal candidate with a minimum of six (6) months of employment at MLKCH
Active demonstrate leadership qualities to foster a positive working environment
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of medical technology, procedural terminology and diagnostic codes.
Ability to maintain a professional and patient care oriented attitude.
Ability to read and speak Spanish preferred.
Demonstrated ability to oversee and handle quality metrics for MIPS/Disease Management
