Job Description

A Medical Assistant II performs routine clerical and clinical tasks within the clinic, assisting Physicians and other licensed providers to provide quality patient care efficiently and cost effectively.

Essential Job Duties

Performs basic clerical and office duties including:

  • Assembles necessary documents and supplies.

  • Effectively uses computer applications in the office setting.

  • Schedules, coordinates, and monitors appointments, inpatient and outpatient admissions, tests, treatments, and procedures.

  • Maintains medical records and other information.

  • Maintains inventory of supplies. Orders and restocks as needed to ensure availability for patient care.

  • Accurately documents patient history, physical, and vital information into the medical record.

Performs business and financial duties including:

  • Under the direction of the provider, assigns procedural and diagnostic coding to encounter forms.

  • Conducts pre-authorizations and referrals in accordance with third party insurer requirements.

  • Facilitates timely billing by completing necessary documentation.

Performs clinical functions within acceptable standards of care including:

  • Prioritizes (triage) patient needs identified through phone, electronic, and walk-in communication in accordance with established guidelines, standing orders, and protocols.

  • Recognizes and appropriately responds to emergency situations.

  • Prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas.

  • Performs complete intake process as specified by physician or other providers (chief complaint, history, vital signs, height, weight, OFC, care process model data, etc.).

  • Administers screening tests to patients (e.g., visual tests, audiology, spirometry, EKGs) within practice type.

  • Assists provider with examinations, procedures, treatments, and interventions.

  • Provides patient education as directed (content reflects specific MA training, guidelines, care process models, protocols).

  • Reports significant changes in patient condition or other pertinent patient information to the Physician.

  • Following provider instructions, demonstrates accurate, timely, and efficient follow through with pharmacy refills, scheduling out of clinic procedures, obtaining, reporting and tracking of lab results, leaving phone messages, and distributing faxes.

Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives (i.e. CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation, etc.).

  • Entry Rate: $15.44+ (Depending on Experience)

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or one with which Intermountain Healthcare has a valid affiliation agreement

or three years of Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting

or successful completion of an accredited LPN or RN program and a current LPN or RN license.

  • Satisfactorily completes applicable competency assessments and skills checklists within 90 days of hire or transfer into Medical Assistant job.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Preferred Requirements

  • Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA.

  • Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant internship.

VIEW JOBS 10/12/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-10T00:00 GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Practice Administrator, the Patient Experience Specialist is responsible for greeting patients, entering and verifying patient demographics and insurance information, collecting co-payments and balances due, and providing excellent customer service to patients and team members. This position must demonstrate professionalism through adherence to Ogden Clinic's mission, vision, and values. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide professional and courteous service to all "customers" of Ogden Clinic. Customers include Ogden Clinic patients, affiliates, providers, administration, employees, co-workers, insurance company representatives, and other vendor representatives. 2. Meet behavioral expectations and support the dignity of all persons. Also, responsible for the stewardship of resources. 3. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and follow guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors, and co-workers. 4. Study, understand, and adhere to Ogden Clinic Policies and Procedures and OSHA guidelines. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Greet and direct patients in a timely and professional manner. 2. Review electronic medical record for demographic information for accuracy and completeness. 3. Gather required patient demographic information and ensure accurate entry into computer system. 4. Scan insurance cards and Drivers Licenses into electronic medical records (EMR) for billing purposes. 5. Collect ALL applicable co-payments. 6. Ensure cleanliness and order at all reception desks and waiting room areas. 7. Prepare and reconcile daily deposit to ensure a secure deposit in the drop safe. 8. Attend team meetings and team training sessions as scheduled. 9. Timely arrival for scheduled work shifts. Employees must contact the team leader at least two hours prior to the start of a shift if they cannot report to work on time. 10. Consistently use and explain the Health iPASS system to patients and/or financially responsible parties. 11. After 90 day training period, employee will achieve 95% or better on monthly quality assurance (QA) score. 12. After 90 day training period, employee will track, inform, and collect on patient balances. 13. After 90 day training period, employee will receive no more than one kickback or batch issue a month. 14. After 90 day training period, employee will update at least 95% of checked-in patients' information. OTHER DUTIES: 1. Additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned. 2. Maintain confidentiality of patient records and employee/co-worker information. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED). 2. Able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. 3. Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple equations. 4. Reasoning skills: apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Also deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 5. Vision requirements: must be able to adjust focus. 6. Effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions. 7. Computer knowledge with experience in basic word processing required. 8.
