Medical Assistant I - Office Based

Work Location: 15034 Imperial Hwy, La Mirada, CA. Will travel to other Carelon Health Care Centers.

Work Shift: 5 Days a Week, Monday

• Friday: 8:30 am

• 5:30 pm

The Medical Assistant I is responsible for assisting clinicians in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician.

How will you make an impact:

• Provides front and/or back-office support.

• Greets patients in a friendly, service-oriented manner in compliance with Carelon Health Care Center (CCC) or Medical Group Practice protocols and workflows.

• Oversees patient check in by ensuring medical records/charts have been pulled, patient data is current, appropriate paperwork is in order, and charts are reviewed/prepared.

• Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records reason for visit.

• Explains procedures, performs treatments, and administers prescribed medication.

• Oversees patient check out by scheduling follow up appointments, collecting co-payment if applicable, ensuring paperwork is complete.

• Schedules and confirms patient's appointments.

• Reconciles co-payments at the end of each day.

• Requests prior-authorizations for PCP and Specialty Gastroenterology from Medicare HMO Advantage Insurance Groups as well as Fee For Service (PPO) Insurances, Including High-Cost Medications.

• Schedules GI procedure.

Minimum Requirements:

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

• Requires an active, current and valid Medical Assistant certification.

• For Carelon Health business unit, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

• Bilingual communication skills in English/Spanish highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of authorization and referral processes.

• Phlebotomy certification desired.

• Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.

• Knowledge of insurance eligibility.

• Experience in specialty areas.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the pay* range for this specific position is $16.99/hr. to $25.48/hr.
