This position promotes and restores patients health by maintaining the day to day operation of the patent care area; assisting support staff; working with the clinic provider to assure physical and psychological support for patients at the level for which the Medical Assistant was trained and certified. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position that includes tasks or duties (i.e., driving) that the employer in good faith believes could affect the safety, health or reputation of the Agency, participants, the employee performing the task or others.
Requirements
Responsible for filling medi-planners for residential and community based participants and updating of medication list
Administer medication as ordered by physician
Responsible for ordering medication for refills
Monitor effects of medication
Field medically related telephone calls to medical office
Monitor Clozaril participants coordinate weekly blood draws and special orders of Clozaril
Give Haldol Decanoate and Prolixin Decanoate as ordered and any other injectable medications as required
Utilize glucometer to assist in monitoring participants blood glucose levels
Responsible for inspection of medication storage areas and appropriate disposal of out of date medications
Keep medical room stocked with appropriate supplies
Responsible for accurate and timely completion of paperwork
Be available for staff consultation
Work with medical secretary and doctor to provide appropriate coverage
Assist in emergency situations
Other duties assigned by supervisor
Qualifications Required
HS diploma or GED plus Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited program
Possess valid drivers license with acceptable driving record, MVD report, home telephone and reliable transportation
Assists provider in examination of patients and gives instructions to patients as directed by provider
Administer injections to include immunizations and completes paperwork for recording purposes
Processes referrals and sets up appointments for patents for diagnostic procedures and/or with a specialist
Acts as a liaison with the providers, other doctors offices and hospital
Complete progress notes at the end of each service and submit within 24 hours
Coordinate with PCPs by mailing out the PCP Coordination form and documenting in the medical record
Assist Doctors with refills by pulling the necessary chart, ensure client has a follow-up appointment and get pharmacy information for the doctor
Coordinate with the Pharmacy and Insurance companies as needed to provide assistance to consumers with obtaining prescriptions
Complete required annual trainings as required by Agency policy
Reports communicable disease to County Health Department as needed
Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and protocols; following medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substance regulations
Disposes of used syringes, outdated medications and documents related to procedures
Performs specimen collection and approved waived testing
Must obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check
Have working knowledge of English.
Qualifications Preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Sign Language.
Previous front and back office experience in a primary care setting
