Under general supervision and in accordance with established department policies, procedures, care protocols, and provider orders, this position will work within the Patient Centered Medial Home model to systematically analyze patient health information to identify and coordinate the care needs of the individual patient focusing on the continuity of care. Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a medical provider. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician. Responsible for patient charts; EHR forms; and patient documents.
Prepares patients for examination:
Obtains chief complaint from patient.
Takes B/P, weight, height, temperature, and other measurements such as peak flow and/or vitals; graphing pediatric growth charts as directed by Team Leader.
Performs health screenings as directed by Clinical Supervisor.
Assists with laboratory requisitions and assures lab pick-up.
Administers pediatric immunizations and other injections under the direction of a medical provider.
Interviews patients and records history;
Updates and maintains patients charts;
Assists with patient scheduling and encounter forms;
Answers telephone calls and callbacks as instructed by registered nurse, nurse practitioner and/or physician;
Ensures lab reports, patient forms and information are in the medical records;
May be required to request medical records from other health care providers;
Performs routine in-office testing (i.e. BS, UA, Pregnancy test, Strep test, etc.) as directed or by established policies and procedures;
Performs simple medical procedures, such as earwax removal;
Plans and coordinates patient care with the health care providers based on clinic needs.
Identifies patient problems, deviations from normal, and reports changes to health care providers.
Keeps medical records up to date.
Identifies unsafe patient environment and discusses situations with the medical provider or designee.
Maintains open communications with the medical practitioners and other staff.
Coordinates clinic patient flow for efficiency of providers giving care.
Regularly meets with medical practitioners to identify clinical problems and helps initiate appropriate solutions.
Cleans and sterilizes equipment/instruments according to established policies and procedures;
Maintains room cleaning schedule and promotes clean, safe, and well-equipped environment for patients, family members, and staff;
Restocks examination rooms according to established policies and procedures;
Conducts inventory of supplies and equipment for medical office/clinical area as needed or requested;
Participates in and attends in-service education for staff, quality assurance program, and risk management programs.
Relieves and substitutes for other medical assistants in all clinical areas as needed and/or other clerical staff when necessary for clinic operations; and
Attendance is an essential function of the job.

High School Diploma;
Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants with at 180 hours of clinical externship experience required;
Graduate of an accredited 2-year Medical Assistant associates degree program preferred
Registered or Certified Medical Assistant is highly preferred.
Ability to pass administered Skills Testing with a score of 75% or higher;
Current CPR certification required;
One-year experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred
Strong organizational and time management skills essential
Proven ability to work well in a team environment requiring minimal direction to complete tasks
Ability to analyze a problem and develop a solution
Ability to present a professional image and interact tactfully with the public and staff, both in person and over the telephone.
