Medical Assistant - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Washington metropolitan consortium is made up of three institutions under the leadership of Georgetown University: GU Medical Center, Inova Juniper Program, and Montgomery County Health Department. Presently 330 women from the tri-state area are actively participating. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for setting up the exam room, Pap tray set up, blood draws, and checking vital signs. The Medical Assistant is a key position. S/he supports the clinicians in carrying out physical exams and blood draws, communicates with laboratories, government agencies and community practitioners and also travels between 3 WIHS sites as needed. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Keeps the exam rooms and lab stocked with needed supplies for conducting the physical exam and blood draw.

  • Obtains vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration. Explains test procedures to patients.

  • Coordinates sub-studies, maintains patient files and labs.

  • Carries out phlebotomy and vital signs and completes all related documentation.

  • Ensures that standard clinical procedures are implemented in all sites.

  • Packages and ships blood, as well as pap smears and BV slides Task.

  • Transcribes and distributes lab results, coordinating sub-studies.

  • Assists the clinicians in conducting physical exams and procedures, and in conducting colposcopy procedures.

  • Meets regularly with research staff, faculty, lab personnel, and research patients.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma and a one year certificate program from an accredited school

  • Minimum 2 years prior Medical Assistant experience

  • Current certification in adult CPR/AED

  • Should be able to perform ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and phlebotomy

Requirements Lab Manager, Cognitive Recovery Lab - Georgetown University Medical Center The Cognitive Recovery Lab at Georgetown University and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital (PI: Peter Turkeltaub) is seeking a Lab Manager to start in Spring 2020. The Cognitive Recovery Lab aims to understand how language is organized in the brain, how this organization changes in the face of a brain injury, and how we might improve recovery. The primary focus of the lab's research is aphasia resulting from stroke. Studies involve extensive behavioral testing of stroke survivors and control subjects, multimodal MRI studies, and non-invasive brain stimulation studies. Lab members include Research Speech-Language Pathologists, Research Associates and Post-docs, PhD and MD/PhD students, and Undergraduate and Graduate Research Assistants. The Lab Manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the lab, including managing IRB protocols, overseeing undergraduate research assistants, organizing lab meetings, and fulfilling other research administrative needs of the lab. The Lab Manager will also run subjects through research protocols, and will have opportunities to contribute to data analyses, conference presentations, and manuscript preparation. The Lab Manager will be encouraged to participate in academic activities such as Brain Plasticity Seminars and the Brain & Language journal club. Duties include, but are not limited to: * Run research sessions with participants * Record and manage research data * Manage lab IRB protocols and records * Place orders and reconcile payments for research materials * Organize lab meeting schedules * Oversee undergraduate research assistants * Analyze data * Prepare and deliver presentations for conferences * Write manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals Qualifications * Bachelor's degree, and prior research experience in cognitive psychology, neuroscience or another related field. * Must be organized, personable, responsible, reliable, self-motivated, and efficient. * Must be comfortable working with patient populations. Preferred qualifications * Prior MRI research and experience working with people with aphasia are highly desirable. * Individuals with programming experience, working knowledge of Matlab, EPrime, or R will be given preference.
