Medical Assistant

Position Highlights:

  • The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurses with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting

  • The Certified Medical Assistant assumes responsibility for maintaining patient flow, the upkeep of exam and treatment rooms, and performing basic skills such as vital signs and point of care testing

  • The Certified Medical Assistant will administer intramuscular injections, immunizations, and over-the-counter medications under the direction of a Physician

  • Will function in dual administrative front desk role as a backup when necessary

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.

  • Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required.

  • Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.

  • Prepares and supports patient and assists provider with procedures.

  • Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit.

  • Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit.

  • Administers immunizations as ordered by Physician.

  • Demonstrates appropriate population specific techniques with patients

  • Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations.

  • Calls patients regarding test results and medical instruction under the direction of a Physician.

  • Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.

  • Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.

  • Maintains the inventory of medical and linen supplies.

  • Provides cross coverage to other clinical areas as assigned.

  • Participates in quality improvement projects.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA (includes principles and techniques of injections and medication administration)

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program is preferred

  • Current CPR Certification

  • Minimum of one year clinical experience preferred

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred

  • Computer skills required, Epic Ambulatory experience preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

The Dental Assistant III provides chair-side assistance to the Dentist during procedures. He/she prepares patients for dental treatments, sterilizes equipment, maintains inventory lists, restocks supplies, confirms patient appointments, verifies insurance, and is responsible for coordination and communication between staff and the dental clinic. The Dental Assistant III assists with providing dental education to patients. The work schedule for this position is flex days and weekends. Duties: Essential Responsibilities: * Provide chair-side assistance to the Dentist during dental procedures. * Responsible for sterilization of all dental instruments, and for maintenance of * sterilization equipment. * Place barriers over dental equipment, and is responsible for basic OSHA standard * asepsis in the clinic. * Clean all equipment after each dental procedure. This includes dental chairs, hand * piece and counter areas, vacuum arm stands, water reservoir bottles, operatory * lights, and any other dental equipment that is present in the operatories. * Expose and process dental radiographs under the direction of the Dentist. Take * impressions and pour study molds. * Review oral hygiene and post operative instructions with the patients. Provide dental * education. * Ensure equipment and supplies are available for laboratory cases and that * laboratory cases are sent to the lab. Keep track of lab cases sent from the lab. * Keep inventory of dental equipment, and is responsible for ordering supplies as * needed. * Responsible for the maintenance and overall operating efficiency of equipment in the * clinic. This includes notifying managers of any malfunctioning equipment so that * necessary repairs can be made. * Responsible for the flow of the dental clinic. * Assist with scheduling, confirming appointments, and verifying of dental insurance for * all dental patients. * May assist in interviewing, hiring, and training of new dental staff. * Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: * Two years (24 months) of experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant II level of this series, including experience in four-handed dentistry. * Current certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Preferred Qualifications: * Coronal polishing and sealant certification. * Nitrous oxide monitoring certification.
