Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists medical providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions and or with treatments as directed by the provider. A Medical Assistant

  • Float travels and transitions to different clinics as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calls patient to the appropriate location for pre-examination information gathering.

  • Inquires about any self-referrals, recent ER visits or hospitalizations and requests reports from appropriate sources, documenting all in the electronic healthcare record (EHR).

  • Accurately measures and records information: height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature add peak expiratory flow rate, SpO2 and head circumference. Record all measurements and information gathered in patients' electronic medical record.

  • Notes chief complaint in electronic medical record.

  • Gives injections under Provider's direction.

  • Gives immunizations under Provider's direction, follow-up, update OSIIS record appropriately and immunization information COCASA system (data entry).

  • Prepares and restocks supplies in each examination room daily.

  • Prepares examining rooms for subsequent patient.

  • Assists physician in physical exams as directed.

  • Disposes of contaminated items according to VARIETY CARE policy.

  • Follows "Universal Precautions" for safety regulations, uses PPE as task on hand requires.

  • Answers simple patient questions over the telephone and documents in electronic medical record.

  • Follows HIPAA guidelines and VARIETY CARE policy and procedures as it relates to privacy.

  • Arranges for referrals outside VARIETY CARE, as requested by the provider.

  • Advises patient accordingly. Answers questions regarding the referral.

  • Assist with medical emergencies as directed by provider

  • Floats and transitions to different medical pods/clinics as necessary. Usually serves as back-up when short-staffed or when clinic is in high demand.

Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform-to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Medical Assistant Certificate or Licensed Practical Nurse diploma.

  • Demonstrates ability to obtain and record accurate information.

  • Ability to use or willing to learn electronic medical records software.

  • Must be able to use basic computer skills including data entry and typing.

  • Demonstrates, to the satisfaction of the Medical Director, an ability to perform the injections, instrumentation or lab procedures as directed.

  • Able to communicate with the patient population.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality with information.

  • Able to work in a multi-faceted, fast paced environment.

  • Must be flexible and willing to commute to other Variety Care metro locations including Norman.

Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

  • Previous practice experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to lift at least 25 pounds

  • Able to assist patients on to and off of exam table when asked or directed.

  • Ability to drive upon request
