Medical Assistant

Visiting Physicians Association, a national leader in delivering home based primary care, works with home health and hospice agencies to ensure patients receive continuity of care in the home environment. VPA in-home physicians collaborate with agencies to establish in-home treatment plans and certify the need for services. VPA partners with over 1,000 home health agencies, collaborates with independent and assisted living communities, and works with skilled nursing facilities and hospitals nationally to coordinate services and patient transitions to home care.

Position Description

Medical Assistant will assist VPA Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepares daily route and drives physician to scheduled visits

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment

  • Takes vital signs

  • Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture only) as ordered by a physician (must be under the direct supervision of physician assistant or nurse practitioner Arizona only)

  • Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab (must be under the direct supervision of physician assistant or nurse practitioner Arizona only)

  • Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing

  • Logs information in compliance with CLIA standards

  • Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPAA requirements. Assists physician in preparing for minor surgeries and examinations

  • Aids in communication and form signing with patient/caregivers

  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment (supply inventory, medical bag and car)

  • Manages company vehicle with regard to cleaning and proper periodic maintenance schedule

  • Manages gas receipts and mileage

  • Maintains patient confidentiality

  • Attends required meetings and in-services

  • Other duties as require

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients

  • Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural settings

  • Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to read and understand road maps

  • Sit or stand for long periods of time

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Active CPR Certification

  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and good driving record

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Certificate of Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, related medical education/training program or 3 years of experience serving as a Medical Assistant

Additional Arizona Requirements

  • Active First Aide Training Completion

  • Active current Level 1 fingerprint card

  • Must complete an approved training program see list of approved accreditation board programs on Arizona Medical Board website (see exceptions R4-16-401) or completion of an unapproved medical assistant training program and passage of the medical assistant examination administered by either the American Association of Medical Assistants or the American Medical Technologists

ADDITIONAL WASHINGTON REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a Certified MA with the State of Washington

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Certified Medical Assistant

  • Six months of experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care

  • Strong Phlebotomy skills

You will be expected to build relationships with Oak Street Health members. Medical Assistants will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room Oak Street Health patients. S/he will be expected to assist in assessing patient's health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments. Responsibilities: * Ensures efficient patient flow by rooming patients in a timely manner and assisting the provider with staying timely on their schedule * Delivers an exceptional patient experience, and helps patients prepare for their provider visit * Obtains vital signs, chief complaints and reviews medications * Delivers patient screenings per protocols * Orders supplies and stocks exam rooms * Conducts routine quality control checks including infection control measures, equipment QAs, and checks for expired medication and supplies * Ensure exam rooms are clean, safe, and ready for patient visits * Under direction of an RN, provider and/or protocol, provide telephonic support to patients * Under direction of an RN or Provider, offer MA appropriate "visits" including administering vaccinations, performing procedures including but not limited to: ABI, spirometry, EKGs, etc. * Perform waived laboratory testing * Schedule diagnostic testing * Applies or assists with the application of durable medical equipment * Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations * Other duties as assigned The Medical Assistant will report to the Practice Manager. What we're looking for We're looking for motivated, experienced Registered or Certified Medical Assistants with: * 3+ years in a Medical Assistant role * CPR Certification required * Medical Assistant certification or registration required.
