Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant (MA) position is responsible for knowing his/her professional scope of practice as defined by the California Business and Professional Code and for satisfactorily completing the CHWMF orientation period that includes demonstrating skills and behaviors that meet a fully competent level of performance. The MA maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment, and performs patient care services that support the physician / provider's practice under the clinical supervision of the Physician, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, physicians assistant or licensed Vocational Nurse. This includes assisting in prepping patients for examinations or procedures, assisting with procedures, relaying instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person, and collecting patient data. Documenting patient concerns, patient concerns, patient messages, and care provided to the patient in the patients medical record for the physician's review. Administrating medications specifically directed by the physician and performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation. This position may have access to third party credit card information and transactional systems (cash registers, point of sale devices, applications supporting credit card tranactions, and reports or other documents containing credit card information) from single transactions or a single card at a time.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal Medical Assistant program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited Medical Assistant program (determination by Dignity Health Medical Foundation H.R. department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health Professions)

  • Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills are essential

  • Medical terminology, familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding procedures and reference tools, and pharmacology appropriate to the Medical Assistant scope of practice is essential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six (6) month's experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Assistant preferred

  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system is preferred

The Team The StemExpress Procurement team is driven to provide researchers high-quality products at life-changing speed. They also collect samples from our community to support large scale infectious disease screenings. The team excels at providing outstanding customer service with the purpose of collecting blood samples intended for research. Duties and Essential Job Functions: * Helps donors by providing relevant information and assistance regarding their collection type * Verifies donor information by talking with donors, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of appointment * Exercises utmost professionalism and tact to provide excellent customer service for donors; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to established policies and HIPAA requirements * Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established safety standards and procedures set forth by StemExpress * Travel to various collection locations as assigned * Collect samples from donors using nasal, oropharyngeal, and nasopharyngeal swab methods * Consistently follows established StemExpress SOPs with regard to donning and doffing required PPE * Consistently uses required PPE while performing collections as outlined in established StemExpress SOPs * Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling donor complaints; appropriately refers donor complaints to designated personnel as needed * Assists in day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including but not limited to word processing, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones and data entry as needed * Assists with basic laboratory tasks under supervision of appropriately trained personnel. * Assemble testing kits as needed * Ability to have a flexible work schedule in order to meet client needs * Perform other duties as assigned Reporting Relationships This position is non-supervisory and will have no oversight for personnel.
