Responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality care to patients in accordance with individual needs, physician orders and standards of care, as represented through patient care policies. Must be able and willing to handle all front and back tasks within the clinic according to established procedures and protocols, as to provide a seamless experience for the patient. Duties could include (but are not limited to): greeting and checking in patients, scheduling appointments, rooming patients, assisting doctors, triaging acute patient concerns, working within the EMR system, running lab controls, and departing patients.

Hiring Competencies

a) Certification: Required - Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or certification as a Registered Medical Assist (RMA) by American Medical Technologies or certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcare Association or certification as a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA/NCCT) by National Center for Competency Testing.b) License:

Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification or within 90 days of hire.c) Bilingual: Spanish and English preferred.d) Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language, filters, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.e) Demonstrates excellent skills in caring for population served. Uses problem solving processes to make decisions related to patient care.

Responds appropriately in emergency situations.f) Demonstrates good customer service and leadership skills. Effectively utilizes conflict resolution skills. Functions well as part of a patient care team.g) Demonstrates good organization skills and ability to successfully multitask with frequent interruptions.h) Demonstrates effective verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills and use of proper grammar and spelling.i) Demonstrates good telephone and keyboarding skills. Previous experience using an EMR preferred.j) Possesses knowledge of medical terminology.k) Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct for the employee's particular job.

Essential Functions: * Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, CMAs may administer: * Oral, sublingual and buccal medications * Eye medications with the exception of eye medications to new post-operative eye residents. * Ear medications * Nasal medications * Rectal medications * Vaginal medications * Skin ointments, topical medications including patches and transdermal medications; * Medications by gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes * Premeasured medication delivered by Aerosol/Nebulizer; and * Medications delivered by metered hand-held inhalers. * Responsible for administering PRN medications as directed by the licensed nurse to stable residents according to physician or nurse practitioner orders in the following circumstances: * In response to a specific request by the resident The resident request must be reported to the licensed nurse The resident response must be reported to the licensed nurse * At the direction of the licensed nurse, when: A licensed nurse assesses the resident prior to administration of the PRN medications, and A licensed nurse assessed the resident following the administration of the PRN medication. * Responsible for monitoring vital signs prior to medication administration, as directed and reporting as directed to the licensed nurse. * Ensures that accurate medication records are maintained. Records medications administered or omitted on the residences' clinical record sheet. Records reasons a medication was omitted and reports omission to the licensed nurse. * Codes the score on the pain scale that the resident directs prior to and after the administration of PRN pain medications as directed by the licensed nurse. * Records narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheet. * Responsible for promptly reporting any medication errors made or noted, and for completing appropriate forms. * Nursing technicians (students) will be excluded from scheduled drug administration. * Protects the personal belongings of each resident including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia, etc. Promptly reports missing items according to established policy. * Performs various tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, resident weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, as well as lifting, moving, and transporting residents, using proper body mechanics or * Lifting devices for accident prevention. * Responsible for keeping records documenting care provided or other information in keeping with department policies while performing all job * responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials. * Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, dress codes including personal hygiene, and perform other work duties as assigned. Qualifications: * High School diploma or equivalent. * Current State CMA Certification and in good standing with least one year of experience. * Able to follow written direction, comprehend verbal instructions, and write at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
