The Medical Assistant Physician's Office Clinic provides patient care, clerical services, and environmental control services in a clinical or hospital practice according to established policies and procedures. Utilizes information to continuously improve patient care and practice to enhance outcomes. Communicates/collaborates with physicians and staff to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate care for patients. Participates in continuing education activities that enhance employee's professional abilities and ensure up-to-date patient care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs general patient care responsibilities including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, and weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patients for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.

  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed.

  • Organizes medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure the provider has all of the necessary information available during patient encounters.

  • Instructs patient in basic testing requirements, e.g., clean catch urine.

  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, and storing supplies; restocking exam/procedures rooms. Adheres to and employs appropriate sterile techniques and universal precautions guidelines. Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety. Reports patient safety issues to the practice manager in a timely manner.

  • Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic's services.

  • Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities.

  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives.

  • Quickly communicates problems relating to patients and/or staff with the practice manager.

  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Basic Life Support within 6 months
