Medical Assistant

Visiting Physicians Association, a national leader in delivering home based primary care, works with home health and hospice agencies to ensure patients receive continuity of care in the home environment. VPA in-home physicians collaborate with agencies to establish in-home treatment plans and certify the need for services. VPA partners with over 1,000 home health agencies, collaborates with independent and assisted living communities, and works with skilled nursing facilities and hospitals nationally to coordinate services and patient transitions to home care.


The Medical Assistant will assist VPA Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.


  • Prepares daily route and drives physician to scheduled visits

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment

  • Takes vital signs, perform phlebotomy (venipuncture only) as ordered by physician

  • Labels, stores, and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab

  • Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing

  • Logs information in compliance with CLIA standards

  • Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPAA requirements. Assists physician in preparing for minor surgeries and examinations

  • Aids in communication and form signing with patient/caregivers

  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment (supply inventory, medical bag and car)

  • Manages company vehicle with regard to cleaning and proper periodic maintenance schedule

  • Manages gas receipts and mileage

  • Maintains patient confidentiality

  • Attends required meetings and in-services

  • Other duties as required


  • Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients

  • Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural settings

  • Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to read and understand road maps

  • Sit or stand for long periods of time


  • Active CPR Certification

  • Certificate of Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, related medical education/training program or 3 years of experience serving as a Medical Assistant

  • Washington Practices Only must be a Certified MA with the State of Washington

  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and good driving record

  • High School Diploma/GED


  • Certified Medical Assistant (required for Washington practices)

  • Six months experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care

  • Strong Phlebotomy skills

Required Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED * Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or registration or the ability to obtain the designation within 180 days of employment * Current CPR and/or BLS certification or the ability to attain the certification within 30 days of employment * Knowledge of medical terminology * This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease Preferred Qualifications: * 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related experience in a medical setting * Bilingual (English/Spanish) language proficiency * ICD-9/10 and CPT coding experience * Microsoft experience Transforming health care and millions of lives starts with the values you embrace and the passion you bring.
