Job Description

SUMMARY: Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Physician by performing the following duties. This is a Direct Hire position with the medical practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Utilizing the computer tablets provided, follow designated provider through clinic providing patients physician orders and appropriately marking the charge ticket for proper billing.

Rooms patients and removes any dressings before physician goes into room, changing the status on the computer appropriately.

Performs suture removal, staple removal, applies/removes splints, casts, and dressings at the direction of the physician or physician assistant.

Cleans and sterilizes instruments.

Keeps rooms stocked and organized, and updates the order supply form when necessary.

Assists in obtaining authorizations for patients for: therapy, x-rays, MRI's, CT's and other applicable orders from the physician.

Takes medically relevant patient phone calls.

Calls in prescriptions and refills at the direction of the physician or physician assistant.

Ensure the proper medical reports are available for physician review for follow up visits

Documents all interactions on patient accounts within the EMR.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Medical Assistant Certificate (preferred) and High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

MS Excel & MS Word.

Must possess a current, valid Medical Assistant (MA) certificate. Prefer Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certificate.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to handle a high volume of patients with skill and confidence.

Knowledge of insurance plans and their rules.

Basic knowledge of hand anatomy a plus.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
