Position Summary:

Medical Assistant must be able to float between downtown Phoenix, Chandler & Ahwatukee to cover staffing needs.

Provides support with the daily activities of a medical office including filing, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, registration and patient referrals. Interacts with patients, staff, hospital personnel and other professionals to improve patient satisfaction and quality control of billing information, reduce duplication of work measured by lowering cost per patient intake, and reduce the number of claim rejections on initial submission.

The following are essential job functions/accountabilities:

Registers new patients in EMR (Centricity) prior to scheduling appointment with correct demographic and insurance information.

Ensures that all initial consultations, pertinent notes, lab slips, radiology and pathology reports are available to the physician prior to patient arrival.

Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or initiates a triage slip for response by medical personnel.

Schedules appointments and immediately enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler.

Responsible for knowing the physician's personal schedule and coordinating it with the clinical and surgical schedules.

Retrieves authorization from insurance carrier for services.

Enters office and surgical appointments directly into Centricity and physicians personal Outlook calendar.

Prepares and runs clinics.

Schedules outpatient testing.

Conducts reminder calls to all patients.

Greets and directs patients, salespeople and visitors.

Registers patients by verifying that the patient's record is up to date and accurate. Makes appropriate changes in computer system.

Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.

Prepares all billings in computerized system for processing by Business Office.

Codes office charges on e-ticket and sends appropriate op notes and coding information to coder within five (5) days of service.

Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Tracks incoming scans for film reviews for upcoming consultations/office visits.

Able to perform all jobs within the office setting when other employees are absent.

Supports BBSs Compliance Program.

All other duties as assigned or requested.


Basic Education

Graduate of a Medical Assisting/Assistant (MA) accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

Basic Experience

Two (2) or more years of experience in a medical clinic in a similar capacity.

Effective communication skills with co-workers, patients, vendors and physicians.

Reports to work regularly and on time.

Maintains positive attitude and demonstrates the utmost in professionalism.

Dresses appropriately and professionally.

Works well independently, without supervision.

Completes work accurately, in a timely manner within or under budget.

Maintains effective working relationships with physicians, administration and other staff members.

Requires flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends or holidays.

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Medical Assistant will assist VPA Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Prepares daily route and drives physician to scheduled visits * Prepares patients for examination and treatment * Takes vital signs, perform phlebotomy (venipuncture only) as ordered by physician * Labels, stores, and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab * Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing * Logs information in compliance with CLIA standards * Performs all clinical duties while observing OSHA and HIPAA requirements. Assists physician in preparing for minor surgeries and examinations * Aids in communication and form signing with patient/caregivers * Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment (supply inventory, medical bag and car) * Manages company vehicle with regard to cleaning and proper periodic maintenance schedule * Manages gas receipts and mileage * Maintains patient confidentiality * Attends required meetings and in-services * Other duties as required PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS * Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients * Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural settings * Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs * Ability to read and understand road maps * Sit or stand for long periods of time REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE * Active CPR Certification * Certificate of Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, related medical education/training program or 3 years of experience serving as a Medical Assistant * Washington Practices Only must be a Certified MA with the State of Washington * Must maintain a valid drivers license and good driving record * High School Diploma/GED PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE * Certified Medical Assistant (required for Washington practices) * Six months experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care * Strong Phlebotomy skills Usmm Phoenix AZ
