Position Summary:

Assist practitioners in the preparation and treatment of patients under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Areas of Responsibility: Become proficient in all areas of responsibility, including but not limited to:

  • After orientation will independently function in one of the MA roles.

  • Build relationships with patients, staff and providers to ensure excellent customer service.

  • Communicate with providers, other staff, and patients to promote optimum clinic flow.

  • Learn and follow Petaluma Health Center (PHC) policies, procedures, and methods pertaining to the job.

  • Room patients, take and document vital signs including height, weight, BMI. Temperature, respirations, and blood pressure.

  • Collect and document patient history.

  • Perform routine screening procedures such as hearing and vision test and document findings.

  • Perform various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to; fingersticks for hemoglobin checks, ear washes, nebulizer treatments, urine dipsticks, specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures, wound cleaning, and Purified Proteain Derivatives (PPD) placement, International Normalized Ratio (INR), glucose, Human Choriocic Gonadotripin (HCG), Hemoglobin A1C.

  • Administer immunizations, document in EMR.

  • Ensure that all logs, forms, records, and charts are complete, thorough, and accurate.

  • Documents freezer and refrigerator temperature.

  • Prepare treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flow.

  • Provide patient education and follow-up care instructions.

  • Perform panel management and non-visit tasks as assigned by provider or RN.

  • Practice standard safety precautions, to ensure safety to self, other staff, and patients including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning the Ultrasound machine and Electrocardiogram (EKG) machine.

  • Recommend improvement in processes and practices through the proper channels.

  • Take an accurate message and respond in a timely manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit ergonomically correctly; use hands to finger, handle or feel, ability to talk and/or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 - 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Repetitive motion with word processing and data entry. Heavy phone use.

Use electronic medical record for documentation of above procedures. Sensitivity to the needs and the situations of a multi-cultural populations from a variety of income levels.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California or documented equivalent training on a physician's office (at minimum, training must conform to the state's program of California Medical Assistant Regulations BPC 1366.1-1366.4).

  • 0-2 yrs experience.

  • Eligible for certification or is entry level with certification in place.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certification/Eligible.

  • Venipuncture and injection certifications and or competency.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish with children and adults in person, on the telephone, and in writing.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and request from patients, co-workers, and others as necessary.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to recognize problems, collect data, and establish facts.

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Use of a web browser.

  • Electronic Medical Records.

This job title includes the Certification Level/Titles referenced in the H&R Block Tax Professional Certification Program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Prior to beginning the tax interview, confirm that the client received a copy of H&R Block's Privacy Policy as required under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. If the client didn't receive the Privacy Policy, provide a copy to the client. 2. Conduct tax interviews and research tax questions for the purpose of preparing complete and accurate returns. Review completed tax forms for accuracy and compliance with the District General Manager's instructions. Refer more complex returns so a more experienced Tax Professional in accordance with the District General Manager's instructions. 3. Provide tax information to clients as it relates to tax preparation and refer any unresolved client concerns in accordance with the District General Manager's instructions. 4. Finalize tax returns so client can either request electronic filing or make arrangements to pick up completed return at the tax office. 5. Communicate the fee for products and services in accordance with established company schedule of charges. Collect necessary fees and submit fees and related documentation in accordance with the District Manager's instructions. 6. Assist in transitioning acquired clients to H&R Block brand 7. Provide any additional research or follow-up necessary to change or update returns and contact client of the required changes. 8. Promote and provide additional or alternative tax and financial products, which the company may make available. 9. Take initiative to seek new clients by asking current clients for referrals and actively develop and execute client acquisition plans. 10. Remain current with company policies and procedures related to tax preparation and offering other financial products. Read other business publications, as recommended by the District Manager's instructions. 11. Prepare any additional administrative forms as required by H&R Block 12. Attend training required for the position. 13. Assist in maintaining proper office appearance and cleanliness. Ensure that workstation is neat and clean at all times. 14. May perform duties of other office support positions. As necessary, assist in opening the office and participate in the end of the day processes related to accounting, office appearance, and office closing. 15. Other duties, as assigned Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education These skills are typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional course work in math is preferred. Experience These skills are typically acquired through the successful completion of the H&R Block Income Tax Course or equivalent and have passed the examination with a grade of 80% or better. Associate must participate in the 18-hour continuing education requirement in order to be considered for rehire. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and effectively communicate in person. Previous experience in a customer service environment is helpful. Preferred Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly and effectively with the public in a variety of situations including but not limited to public speaking engagements.
