Medical and Health Management Consultant & Designated Employee Representative

This position will coordinate Georgia Power Company Drug and Alcohol program. Position may also provide case management for occupational and non-occupational medical and disability issues of employees to resolution in a manner which provides appropriate medical care and is expedient, efficient, cost effective and consistent with Safety & Health goals and "Our Values". This is accomplished by working closely with Medical and Health Management Team members, health care professionals, corporate legal counsel, company HR representatives and company management in Southern Company.

This position will be located in Atlanta, GA.

Job Requirements

  • A current State of Georgia Registered Nurse multistate license

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing strongly preferred. Master's degree in Health Science, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Drug and Alcohol testing requirements for FMCSA DOT preferred,

  • Working knowledge of medical and health management practices, and professional code of conduct, Georgia Workers Compensation laws, Family Medical Leave Act regulations, American's with Disability Act, 1973 Rehabilitation Act-Section 503, medical privacy regulations and Human Resources Management practices preferred.

  • Ability to interpret and apply drug and alcohol policies and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret and apply disability related benefit policies and plans.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work direction. Ability to effectively and efficiently manage time, priorities and professional relationships.

  • Strong clinical assessment and medical treatment skills.

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (up to 2 weeks) during emergency storm restoration duty.

  • Available for daily travel within the service territory.

  • Occasional afterhours call for drug and alcohol issues.

  • Must have valid driver's license

Job Responsibilities

  • Administering the Drug and Alcohol Program.

  • Communicates with MRO on donor, collection and reporting issues.

  • Ensures compliance with federal (DOT) and state Drug-Free Workplace Regulations.

  • Serves as liaison with drug and alcohol testing service agent.

  • Receives test results and perform the functions necessary according to the results of the test.

  • Removes employees from safety sensitive duties.

  • Make necessary decisions in the testing and evaluation process.

  • Oversight of DOT drug test collection site.

  • Oversight of random selections.

  • Resolve problem testing situations.

  • Referral to Substance Abuse Provider.

  • Record keeping and record retention requirements.

  • State reporting requirements.

  • Handle appeals associated with the program including interface with Employee Relations and Company attorneys when the testing program or results associated with the program are challenged.

  • Coordinate activities related to medical management of injury/illness cases under the guidance of corporate medical directors.

  • Coordinate the accommodation process for client departments according to the ADA Regulations. Includes job analysis and return to work activities.

  • Assist management in determining employee Fitness for Duty and coordination of related processes.

  • Establish and maintain documentation of all drug and alcohol decisions and communications. All information shall be kept in strict confidence according to privacy laws and ADA regulations.

  • Communicate clearly and timely with management, employees, medical director, and fellow Medical and Health Management team members. Consult with employees and management on applicability of other available resources (LTD, Workers Compensation, Medical Benefits, EAP/Mental Health Benefits, Fitness for Duty Exams, Etc.)

  • Support employee Health and Wellbeing initiatives, including health fairs, immunizations, health education and SouthernLifeStyle programs.

  • Occasional afterhours call for drug and alcohol issues.

  • Provide medical support for employees working on storm restoration.

  • Direct report to Medical and Health Management Manager.

  • Accountable to Medical and Health Management Team and Labor Relations General Manager for support and team work in accomplishing team goals and performing team services.

  • Accountable to Medical Director, Company Management, and Employees for services provided.

Utilization Management Representative Lead Responsible for providing technical guidance to UM Reps who handle correspondence and assist callers with issues concerning contract and benefit eligibility for precertification, prior authorization of inpatient and outpatient services and post service requests.
