JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Administrative Assistant 1 provides front-office support for the University Family Physicians practice within The Department of Family Medicine. This position provides patient scheduling, patient registration, insurance verification, and collecting patient co-pays and account balances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answers the appointment line and assists patients with scheduling appointments.

• Performs patient registration/check-ins, patient collections, insurance and demographic verifications.

• Prepares and mails new patient applications.

• Completes PCP change forms when necessary, during the check-in process.

• Answers phone calls and routes calls and messages through EMR.

• Schedules interpreters for hearing-impaired patients.

• Communicates with patients regarding their appointments and wait times.

• Maintains cleanliness of front office space and waiting rooms.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (Vocational or Technical Training preferred). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of customer service or administrative experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to multi-task in a busy work environment.

• Excellent computer skills.

• Knowledge and ability to work in Microsoft Office.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings.
