  • Responsible for conducting eligibility screenings, assessment of patient financial requirements, and counseling patients on insurance benefits and co-payments.

  • Serve as a liaison between the patient, hospital, and governmental agencies; and you will be actively involved in all areas of case management.

  • Screen and evaluate patients for existing insurance coverage, federal and state assistance programs, or hospital charity application.

  • Re-verify benefits and obtains authorization and/or referral after treatment plan has been discussed, prior to initiation of treatment.

  • Ensures appropriate signatures are obtained on all necessary forms.

  • Obtain legal relevant medical evidence, physician statements and all other documentation required for eligibility determination, and complete and file applications.

  • Initiate and maintain proper follow-up with the patient and government agency caseworkers to ensure timely processing and completion of all mandated applications and accompanying documentation.

  • Document progress notes to the patient's file and the hospital computer system.

  • Participate in ongoing, comprehensive training programs as required.

  • Required to make field visits as necessary.

  • College degree preferred or high school diploma (equivalent).

  • Minimum three years of hospital/medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction

  • Understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.

  • Ability to collect, synthesize and research complex or diverse information.

Ensures appropriate documentation exists in the electronic health record to support eligibility. Performs re-verification of patient eligibility as required per the contract/policies. Verify and maintain accurate billing episodes in the electronic health record. Performs data entry for required documentation of patient assessments. Actively participates in meetings regarding grant contracts and third party insurances; conducts audits of records, assists with communicating relevant information and answering questions within assigned clinic(s) Essential Functions: * Verify patient eligibility for grant funding and insurances; re-verify as required by grant/insurance program. * Ensure billing episode is accurate in the electronic health record. * Maintain required documentation for grant eligibility to include financial verification * Complete required reports and data entry for patient assessments * Assist Program Directors in preparing for audits with grantors/insurers * Communicate with patients to obtain required financial documents to support eligibility; remain accessible to patients by phone or in person. * Communicate with clinic staff concerning patient inquiries related to grant/insurance eligibility and enrollment * Participate in Revenue Cycle meetings; assist in disseminating information within assigned clinics; * Perform other tasks as assigned (e.g.; follow-up on denied patient claims, etc.). None Essential Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Licensure/Certification: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education required. Associates degree or higher preferred. Required Knowledge: HIPAA. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Basic Mathematics skills and revenue cycle/insurance terminology. Experience Required: Two years healthcare revenue cycle experience; Basic knowledge of grants management to include enrollment. Additional patient financial service experience and/or collections experience is preferred. Strong customer service skills Skill and Ability: Ability to effectively explain grant enrollment and eligibility. Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written) and ability to work effectively with clinical personnel. Attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
