Argonne National Laboratory is searching for a talented Media Relations Coordinator to join the Communications and Public Affairs (CPA) Division.
Under the direction of the Head of Media Relations, the Media Relations Coordinator is responsible for supporting and executing public relations initiatives to secure positive media exposure in local, national and trade media, and enhance the image of Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). This includes tracking and monitoring Argonne's press activity and pipeline of stories; maintaining accurate representation of Argonne news and activity on the Department of Energy's (DOE) website; collecting media metrics and a regular basis; and supporting proactive pitch efforts as assigned.
A successful Media Relations Coordinator will demonstrate a desire to learn everything about the agency's business, the ability to manage several projects at once, the ability to anticipate and rapidly respond to the needs of the client and the account team and display a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Support execution of Argonne's PR strategy in collaboration with other staff to achieve significant increases in awareness of Argonne National Laboratory and support for our mission.
Maintain DOE story tracking spreadsheets on a weekly basis and provide additional information and updates on Argonne activity to stakeholders in DOE.
Monitor media coverage and measure the results of PR efforts.
Field incoming media requests, validate and forward for handling as appropriate.
Research and find new influencers, including news media, to help elevate Argonne.
Monitor and analyze daily news coverage - specific to ANL, industry and business news.
Coordinate closely with digital team to ensure proper classification and posting of laboratory news to social media, ANL.gov, and the ANL intranet.
Provide thoughtful research that supports and/or informs PR and marketing campaigns, product news announcements or other team assignments.
Support timely PR, corporate communication or marketing campaigns as they arise.
Develop press materials on behalf of clients, including press kits, press releases and pitches.
Distribute press releases and pitches on behalf of ANL to local media.
Ensure all reporter deadlines are met.
Prepare and maintain clip reports and live-time clip distribution, monitoring digital, broadcast, print and social media coverage.
Maintain complete and accurate digital and hard copy files on all media lists, pitch documents, press releases, outreach, marketing and media plans, and client correspondence.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Demonstrated excellence in public relations and media.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work setting.
Excellent time management, organizational, and project management skills.
Skilled at Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Able to learn new software and tools.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Bachelor's degree required in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or allied discipline.
Basic knowledge of SEO is preferred, but not required.
Basic knowledge of social media is preferred, but not required.
Ability to work independently, as well as set and adhere to deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility to adapt as priorities change.
Strong attention to detail; able to keep track of work flowing through the department.
2 years' experience in marketing, journalism, public relations or communications.
At least 1 year public relations experience, preferably with a B2B communications or media agency, preferably with technical, scientific content.
Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
Experience with Google Analytics, Cision and/or Meltwater Media Monitoring/Tracking Software preferred.
